It does the job. It definitely does what it's supposed to do

While this is not a tool I'd use all the time, when you need it, you need it. It does a nice job. It will give you nice, clean starter threads when you have to cut a bolt or all-thread. Also, if you pull a bolt out of your bin of old bolts, and it doesn't want to thread, this will clean up the end nicely so that it will thread again (see pics). Wish I had this a long time ago.

The primary purpose one would purchase this for is to put a chamfer on a cut bolt. The chamfer makes the nut go on nice and easy - without it, well, it is a pain in the ... to get the nut threaded. The way to cut a bolt, as I was taught, was to thread a couple of nuts on it and take a hacksaw to the part you want to remove and then unthread the nuts to 'repair' the threads you damaged when cutting (using a cut off wheel on a grinder makes for less thread damage). These approaches works, of course, but is less than ideal. The nut needs to be perfectly aligned to go on. Manufactured bolts have the chamfer at the end that make this much easier. This tool puts that chamfer on a cut bolt. You still should pre-thread a couple of nuts on, cut it, use this chamfer tool with your drill, then unthread them. But the results are great. 5 stars. Much better, easier, and consistent than using a grinder (not to mention taking up less space). I've used this tool on about 20 standard bolts, normal and galvanized, that you would buy by the piece in a big box store bin. I have not used this tool on high-grade hardened bolts, so I cannot comment on that.As for other materials, I was a bit surprised that the chamfer was rough on 1/2" CPVC pipe as well as a piece of steel tubing. The chamfer was also rough on a wooden dowel rod, but because of the grain this was not surprising. In all these cases, using the tool and finishing with a tiny bit of sanding will get you the desired results. This is the reason for the 4 stars. After use for the 20 or so bolts and single use on the other materials, I was not able to detect any wear or chips on the blades even using a lighted magnifier. Unfortunately, multiple attempts at photographing the tool failed to clearly show this, so I omitted them from my review. The packaging it comes in is nice, though I'm putting a packet of silica gel in it to prevent rust just in case.As another reviewer stated, this is a two part tool, but there was no looseness in the connection, and with keeping it in the case in my tool chest, did not percieve it would be necessary to use any threadlocker product to keep it together.
