My husband and I bought a Denon AVR – 1802 AV surround receiver in 1999. It worked like a dream, and still does except the optical port became non-functional; then it was time to look for another receiver. Denon is the only upper level receiver I’ve ever used, so we looked for that brand again. This receiver was a great successor. Our former receiver was all analog, except for the one optical port. The AVR – S660H 5.2 Ch AVR is completely digital. This receiver is even more amazing. The sound is so warm.I’m not going to kid you, this receiver has buttons, switches and settings for many more things than our old receiver did but they’re all wonderful to go through and learn about. It did not ship with a paper manual. I had to download one from Denon‘s website, but many of the same features were the same from my old printed Denon receiver manual. If your company is going to charge $500+ for a receiver, then, one really should go ahead and include a printed manual. The main advantage of a digital PDF manual is that you can look things up a lot easier than if you were combing through pages, furiously trying to figure out why something doesn’t work. I heartily endorse the Denon AVR – S660H 5.2 Ch AVR receiver. It made my 25-year-old 300 watt speakers sound even better, all five of them.Now, let’s discuss the fact that I bought and received a “refreshed†or refurbished receiver. I thought saving $150 was worth the mystery of seeing how it would show up. The Denon packaging was factory-sealed with no dings. It was very complete. I was extremely happy to see that it was like brand new. In fact, I think it is brand new. It is probably an “open box†situation. Don’t worry about buying “refreshed†or refurbished items from Amazon. They’ll back the purchase completely.

I've had a few Denon receivers. While I didn't complete this transaction due to a shipping error, this was/is still my preferred model for my Home Theater needs and was easily the best price I have found.I believe this has been replaced by a newer but derivative model?The HMDI/Power board architecture in this model is common to most Denons. It's a great design except for one flawed issue, (IMHO) heat dissipation: which leads to early failures of this board (specifically four capacitors and often the HDMI chip bed as well) in units with long period heat soak usage.In most cases this issue is a deal breaker...however I like everything else about their performance for price and design that I was willing to finally buy one. To add an expected longevity to this unit and ALL my HT equipment amps, I add at least two flat computer style 'pancake' fans that sit on the top of the unit...in this case, I also added two additional thermo sensor fans moving air out as the first pair forced air in. If you have an infrared thermometer, you can see the effect. They are very quiet and effective for cooling. I recommend this on all large power supply electronics. Don't stack your components...you're just building a heat tower imho.

I got this renewed and LOVE it!! The sound quality is great and I've been really happy with it. I've purchased several "renewed" products from Amazon over the years and have never had any problems with any of them. Great way to get quality at a great price.

spent all day remounting and rewiring for this receiver in the spot my Yahama had been for years. first up the sound test and the rear left popped and crack and then no sound. changed the inputs around and speaker worked fine on other outputs didnt even bother trouble shooting further.initated an exchange, when at first it said replacement would be here in 3-4 days. Fine cool. then I looked at it 3 days later and now it was 4-6 weeks. Sorry but that is unacceptable. Cancelling the exchange and changing it to a return and refund was like pulling teeth and of course amazon refused to issue a refund prior to receiving the unit.
