One of the valve stems on my Trek road bike tire was slightly bent and kept getting so loose it would pop out. I tried hand tightening with short term success. I then tried using a small needle nose pliers which worked better than my hand, but this tool is designed specifically for tightening the valve. One side for Presta, one side for shader. It also came with spare valves which was great and allowed me to replace the bent valve. One day while riding, I stopped to add air with my small portable pump and the valve popped out and disappeared in the grass. Luckily I had the tool and spare valves in one of my little bike bags and was able to replace the valve and then refill the air in my tire. If I hadn’t had that, I would have had to walk my bike 3+ miles home. Instead, I was able to keep cycling.

For extra flat protection, I added Slime to the tubes on my cargo bike. Everything worked fine for 5-6 months but then the valve on my schrader tube got gummed up and I couldn’t let air in or out. As suggested on a YouTube video, I removed the valve core and tried to clean it by running it under hot water. That didn’t work, so I bought this replacement valve core kit. Screwed in a new core and voila, worked perfectly. I also used the enclosed valve core tool and it worked fine…thin and not too long. FWIW, my original schrader valve core had a green band. I did some research and it said no real difference on a bike tube between the red and green banded valve cores. This seems to work fine.

This is now.part of my standard kit. Last season was a few miles into a trail ride and came up on few riders where one had a flat and no tools or spare tubes. Even though I run tubeless, I have a spare tube strapped to my down tube just in case. As we all know it's a lot easier to put in a new tube of you inflate it first to get its shape, remove the valve core to let out all the air and then proceed. Well, guess what. Yup! The core shout out of the stem and into the woods. Luckily we used his old core from his toast tube but lesson learned. Nor I have both Presta and Schrader cores and a nifty tool iny kit!!

New valve cores are an important part of servicing tubes, along with a tube sealant. This kit includes the tool to remove the tube valve cores such that a preventative sealant can be injected. The tool works good for both the Schrader and Presta valve core standards. The price is great.

I was using a needle nose to get the cores out, but this little tool makes life much easier! If you do your own bike maintenance, this is a tool you need!
