Center foam circle goes on the inside of the door behind the speaker to help reduce the chance of resonance inside the door cavity.

The issue with the aftermarket speaker and aftermarket adapter mount is the speaker face sits further into the door, may leave a big air gap between the front of the speaker and back of the door panel. These closed cell foam rings made up for the difference and are easily compressing to pressure seal to the door panel.
