These work quite well for holding a trim nail at 90 degrees. If you want to make it even easier, pre-drill the hole. Another benefit with these is protection of the trim board from a glancing hammer blow on the trim nail.

Though I come from a family of carpenters, I've never been able to drive a nail -- I can't hit the same place twice in a row. Naturally, this has resulted in many mashed digits and nails sent flying into other time zones. It is an eye problem of some type, I think. With these pliers, the pain, the blood, and the cussing are all things of the past. I still miss the head of the nail with regularity, but I'm not injured in the process. The indentations and the stabilizers keep the nail headed in the right direction so when I finally do hit the nail on the head, it goes into the wood where it was meant to go. These are well worth their price. I'm thinking about buying several more pairs for when I finally smash this first set into powder. I'm not in a big hurry, though -- these seem quite durable.

This tool is great! It keeps the nail from getting bent AND saves your fingers from accidental hits. I only deducted 1 star because the first nail I used it with was very nearly too short to hammer while holding it with the tool. I would appreciate the front end being a little thinner for small nails, and the back end of the gripping part big enough to accommodate normal-sized nails.

This is probably the best and cheapest useful doodad I've purchased in a while. I'm putting up trim and had gotten really tired of bent wire nails. This tool is brilliant. I highly recommend it. UPDATE: While I still love this tool, you should know that the plastic does get smooshed by the hammer if there is no play between the tool and the surface. This means that, when you are trying to start nails that are shorter, you'll often have the tool end up getting smashed because you have so little clearance. I am not sure if this will affect tool grip or longevity, but I do notice that the plastic tool does not leave dents like pliars do.

I like to wait to review things and such is the case with this tool. I've had it a while. I find it useful enough and the design is good. But the build quality is so cheap that it hurts my opinion of the tool. I'm not sure how they could save much more money in making it than they did with this thing. The tips don't line up well on mine. It's a bit more difficult to open and close than it should be. Feels like it could break easily with one misfire of a hammer. It's a good design just cheap build quality.

Does a great job of holding the nail so you can hammer safely

Definitely worth the money. I put together a bunch of IKEA Billy bookcases (including the nail-in back panels) and this tool made it so much easier. Not one smashed finger from the hammer. Will definitely come in handy in the future. One note: you don't have to squeeze hard to hold it closed, but you will likely need two hands to open it once you squeeze it. Maybe it will loosen over time. Not a deal breaker for me, but just letting others know in case it is for them

This is one of those tools that is super helpful when you need it. Great for small nails at odd angles when you have trouble swinging the hammer and not able to properly hold up the nail. This will solve that problem. Just used it about a week ago for that same reason after clumsily smashing my finger on the first time without the tool. Your fingers and sanity with thank you!
