Besides adding a “new look” to your windows with a fresh set of locking hardware, these sash locks can help add peace of mind by restoring the security features on vertical sliding windows. These locks are typically used on wooden single-hung and double-hung vertical sliding windows. Each lock features a cam-type mechanism that is designed to draw the keeper in firmly towards the lock, providing your windows with tighter seals, better weatherizing, and increased security. They are constructed of diecast zinc and come in a corrosion-resistant, industry standard white-painted finish to match other existing hardware that may already be in the home. Depending on the size of the sash, these locks can be used as singles or in pairs. Each set includes one lock and keeper, installation fasteners and simple instructions. Installation of these sash locks is easy and can be done with a simple handheld Phillips head screwdriver. Other design features include a low-profile keeper, cam-action fastening, 1-15/16 inch mounting hole centers on the lock, and 1-7/8 inch hole centers on the keeper. These sash locks are for use on older vertical sliding wood windows where the checkrails (also known as “meeting rails”) of both the inner and outer sash rest flush. This was easy to install. It being metal, its much sturdier than the plastic one that broke. I will be replacing all the plastic window latches with these now.

Not the sturdiest, but you get what you pay for. It gets the job done, but I don’t think they’d prevent a motivated burglar from finding a way of braking it if they didn’t want to break the glass first.
