Very easy to set up just turn it on and follow the directions. At any given time I can look up and like the idea of being able to see the time of day or night...with a push of a button it will speak the time, day etc. I hung my clock on the wall and you can adjust the brightness of the clock so it won't be so bright at night. I will not using these functions but it is capable of setting alarms, birthdays, personal medication time etc. I also think it would also be nice to use at the bedside, living room, kitchen etc. Everything you would like to program into the clock can be locked so you don't loose what you programmed by pushing odd buttons by mistake. I've been so busy therefore I haven't had the time to check for battery usage which would be nice if there's a power outage (don't see battery slots)...yet though I do see underneath a slot for what looks like for a micro disc and a usb charger??.... when time allows I'll come back later to comment...as of right now I just wanted a simple functional modern looking clock that was large and visible enough to look up at during the night and go right back to sleep without moving around to much to focus in on thesize of the numbers of the displayed time. This clock does that for me and then some! I would definitely recommend for someone who has a little trouble keeping up with the time of day, a little trouble seeing and hearing. It does show the date, time month and year and if it's morning, afternoon, evening, night or am. It also has military time if you like. I think it would be a great purchase for a gift to someone also. You can't go wrong with this one.

I bought a cheaper version of this a few weeks ago as a Christmas present for my husband, who is in memory care. It never worked well from the beginning and only frustrated my hubby! So next I went for the slightly large display and slightly larger price - and BINGO, this one works great! He can't believe that he can turn it off overnight and it will display the correct day, time, etc. 12 hours later! Great present!

This is the second clock we've bought for dementia assistance. The first was for my grandmother, and this one if for my dad. This version has definitely improved on the first model (and I don't remember the name of that one).Things I liked about this:1. Extremely easy to read - the display options were great to allow us to tailor the messaging that was best for my dad.2. Could be set on a table, instead of hung on the wall. Fiddling with the "off" switch for the alarm can be a bit frustrating, so that might be inconvenient (and lead to dropped clocks) if mounted to the wall. Some of them don't have the ability to stand upright, but this one does. My grandmother pulled hers off of the wall just trying to read it.3. Alarms are really, really helpful because they flash specific information. My grandmother didn't need that - she was past that point - but my dad was looking for a bit more control. Setting custom alarms for him, and being able to add specific directions that made sense to him, was exactly what he needed.4. Different sounds for different alarms. Since my dad wanted some daily alarms (take your meds!) and some weekly alarms (put out the garbage!) it was really nice to be able to set different kinds of sounds. He likes to joke that the level of annoyance he feels for the rooster that tells him its time to take out the trash has somehow prompted him to remember it each week JUST TO AVOID HAVING TO HEAR IT!Criticisms1. We really liked the idea of adding pictures, but that only worked a few of the times we tried to add them. It's a clunky process to transfer files to an SD card, and then upload the correct file. It simply didn't work. But this was a "nice to have" not a "need to have."2. While the set up was easy on some respects, it was so simplified that it was almost hard to do. I can't really blame the company for making this easy enough for the less technologically adept, but I nearly had to crawl out of y skin because of the tedious, time-consuming way to enter the information. My kingdom for a quick connection to a laptop for transferring files or typing instructions! All in all, those were minor annoyances, and it does what it is supposed to do, in the way it's supposed to do it. It's made a world of difference for my dad *AND* my mom.

Purchased this clock for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, and he can easily tell the date, time and time of day. Large lettering, with a nice bright light, is great!

Great clock and calendar! Now my 103 yr old mother knows what day , month and time it is! The letters are big , easy to read and see! Medication and birthday reminders are also a neat feature!

Bought for my mother a year ago. She can be phobic about technology but she loves this clock - it's clear, easy to read, and has proved to be reliable. My mother has mid-stage Alzheimer's but still has reasonable independence, and this clock stabilises her day and week - she navigates by it. And it looks nice!I had hesitated due to reports of unreliability (certainly on the older models), but ours has given no trouble. We don't use any of the alarms or programming, so no comments on those.Once set up it maintains its settings even if unplugged, for any length of time (I tried it for a month before giving it to my mother), though the display is blank when not plugged in. This means it can survive my mother's tendency to switch things off at night - but I plugged it into the TV extension lead which she never switches off, so the problem hasn't arisen! It's worth adjusting the display style and brightness so the clock isn't obtrusively bright, it can be turned down quite a way and still be readable across the room.

The alarm function on this clock does what it wants:- When you set an alarm, you can't be sure that it actually rings at that time- An alarm rings at times when you didn't set an alarmBoth is very annoying. If you can't rely on the alarm to ring when you need it, that's a K.O criterium for a digital clock. Similarly: when the alarm rings in the middle of the night and wakes you up even though you never set an alarm for that time, this is unacceptable, too.How can I send this back and get a refund?
