Warm Tip
If the stair tread template tool is gonna be 34", cut your board at 32". That'll allow you room for maneuvering the jig into position.

I bought this kit after watching a pro use a much more expensive one in a video for building a wood staircase. It made the entire process so much easier and definitely more accurate for marking cuts. I got a very close and precise fit on each step and riser so no need for extra trim to hide any gaps. There are no gaps thanks to this kit. And at this price?? what a deal!

Can not imagine cutting stair treads without one of these. It worked great. I was skeptical since the existing treads that we were replacing looked straight. Wrong! With this tool, we got a nice tight fit with every cut.

I picked this item up for an upcoming stairs project. While working on a pantry remodel, I had some angles that were off for the shelves because of the beautiful sheetrock work.I decided to use this item to fill in the angles where the planks would meet. It worked perfectly with no gaps.The only downfall is that you will need a piece of 2"x1" wood strip for the length of your area of measurement. Because of my project, this required two wood strips, but it worked out well.If my pantry use of this item is an indicator of my stairway project....it would be well worth the low cost.Keep the packaging as it provides a good storage box after use. The item didn't come with instructions but it is pretty easy to use.Enjoy!

Careful with these, theyre pretty fricken sharp. Easy to make a custom length wood connector, they even provide a template. Used these for shelves in a pantry and made it easy.

I found it useful for measuring stair treads that were not square. Cut a length of plywood or lumber that matches your stairs and go to work. Instead of measuring multiple times and making a bunch of notes, I could just adjust the jig to fit the tread was working on and then transfer that same geometry to the new tread. For me, the knobs worked fine since I only do stairs occasionally. For someone doing stairs every day, they probably will use a professional model. The measurement markings stamped into the edges of the tool are nice.

It probably works fine with straight stairs. My stairs are curved. The worst part about my job was that the sides also needs to be custom cut. I tried to use this tool initially, however, I soon found that every step needed different treatments. So for much of my job, the tool wasn't used as it's not helpful.

The extras in the box are rather cheap and unnecessary. If you are taking on DIYing your own stairs or some shelves, you likely have (much) better tools than the measuring tape and other items. That said, the main tool being the stair tread measuring tool was a lifesaver on my staircase. It made measuring the treads simple and deadly accurate. Its a little finnicky to use but gets the job and at a fraction of the price of other stair tread measuring tools which might be worth springing for if you are a professional flooring installer. For a home diy job this is perfect.

For the price this is an excellent product! I was a bit skeptic about how it was going to work but after assembling it with the piece of wood it requires you to add, what a great template! Easy to assemble, adjust, when you tighten the knobs down on your steps, move it to your new step to mark it out, there is absolutely no movement in the template. Move it to the next step to make adjustments and repeat for an easy, accurate tool.

I didn't get a good fit as my old stairs were to warped and twisted to have a decent measurement but it was easy to use.
