It's not made to be a soft padding underneath pool but it does help to save punctures

Holds water and does not dry and started to smell really bad. Had to remove it

Most people setup their pool on soft grass. I don't have grass, soft or otherwise. I have weeds, dirt, little rocks, and so forth. I wouldn't dare put my pool on that without a pad like this. If I did have soft grass, I would still put down the pad.
