I used this for the install of LED headlights on my 70 Mercury Cougar. I removed the spring from just the door (ring) after removing the two retaining screws. I popped out the old headlight bulb, plugged in the new LED bulb, and put back in the two screws most of the way. I then used this tool to hook the spring, stretch it, and catch the spring hook on the hole in the headlight door. Then finished tightening the two retaining screws. It took less than an hour to do all four headlights, I used the Octane kit available here on Amazon.Anyone who has done this job knows what a giant pain in the butt it can be without a tool like this. If you leave the spring on the door and try to muscle through it you can often end up with a broken headlight door, crossthreaded screws, cut up fingers, or a combination of all of the above. Buy this cheap tool and save some grief!

I am a 62 year old woman. The huge spring on my zero turn mower broke. I have replaced this type of spring before and it was a nightmare. But I’m out in the sticks and no help. So I watched a utube video and saw the spring puller. Never heard of one before. Bought the spring. Bout the puller. Easiest task in the world. I was done in two minutes. That little tool made all the difference in the world.

You might want a bigger one if you're dealing with a very strong spring. It did the job for me and I an sure I'll break( pass lol) before it does!

Pros: much better than other (non-specific) tools at minimizing damage to parts and yourself.Cons: asymmetrical, which prescribes how best to hold it (this may be necessary or preferable in some way I haven't yet recognized).

The hook isn't bulky but strong so it's easy work getting the spring on and releasing. It's also the perfect size to get into tight spaces.
