Oh my goodness, I LOVE these!!! If only we’d known about them when my bug-loving daughter was little! She is an adult and is still obsessed with insects. We take them with us everywhere, and they are the PERFECT size to carry the critters we find! There are plenty of holes so the insect can breathe. The capsules snap together securely, so we don’t worry about anything getting loose. We used to carry around bulky bug cages, but no more! These are a must for any insect lover! We will be ordering more!

These little capsules are the perfect size for the field collection of spiders, beetles, crickets, pillbugs, roaches, etc. They're too small for katydids and cicadas, and not suitable for very small insects like some smaller ants or juvenile isopods, springtails, or some juvenile leaf hoppers since they can squeeze through some of the ventilation holes. For the size of the container themselves, and the size and amount of airholes, these are nice. I'm giving that 3 stars. I mostly collect jumping spiders, isopods, and beetles, so for me these are a very suitable size.BUT... these are EXTREMELY HARD to open and close. The lids are supposed to screw on, it seems, since the lid and the capsule itself both have twist-cap ridges. But, NONE of the capsules I got were able to be screwed on/off. I even tried different combinations of lids and capsules, and messed with them all for about 20 minutes before I just gave up and came to the conclusion that they will not screw on.So then I tried just forcing them on, and it worked okay. Enough that these are still going to be usable for me - but doing this made the lids VERY hard to get back off without risking the escape of the creature inside and/or having to bend the capsules themselves. Some of my little isopods got shaken and tilted all around trying to get the stupid lid back off so I could put the isopods into a terrarium. The capsules also have some little "extras" of plastic on the sides. One is a little closed ring, which is actually nice, since I can add these to small lanyards as keychains to keep them very handy. The other is an open ring, which I have no use for, and both the lid and capsule body have straight spikes of plastic for who knows what reason. They are VERY sharp and pointy, and WILL hurt your hands as you try to force the lid back off these dang things.Overall... the capsules are a good size for field collection, but the lids are an absolute nightmare to get on and off. These could DEFINITELY use some rework with the lid. Either make them screw on/off properly, or remove the ridges and just have a much smoother pop on/off lid. IF the lid gets sorted, these would be AMAZING and I would definitely recommend them to other field collectors. As it is now, I would NOT recommend these. The lids are just too much hassle, and small vials or sample-size bottles are much easier to use and ultimately do the exact same thing as field collection containers.
