When the pouring ring is installed, the cap absolutely does not achieve a liquid tight (let alone a gas tight) seal. There is no seal or gasket in the cap (the pouring ring is not a gasket). In the short term it appears that it is water tight when the pouring ring is removed and the cap installed very tightly, but I can't make any educated guesses on whether it is truly sealed.Otherwise the glass seems thick, I don't anticipate any issues with durability.
