If you plan on using these on a recessed window, be very careful when installing them. The brackets will get in the way of opening and closing the window if you are trying to get them close to the window for a black-out effect. I work nights and can't sleep very well when it's sunny. So I have another product that covers the actual window, but I also like some fresh air, so I decided to try one of these. If you mount it on the outside of the window seal on a smaller window, you can get the desired black-out effect, but on large windows where you only want to cover a portion, you can't get the desired level light blockage. All in all, it's a great product that's very easy to install, you just need to be mindful of the application.

::The good::They look good. For cheap blinds they are OK. They also were the fastest ones we could get, with out waiting weeks.::The Bad::I purchased 10 of these shades in different sizes. I wish I knew they did not lock into place, like even the cheapest shades do. Gravity is used to hold the shade in what ever position you put it, however on some shades, you get close to the top and it retracts on other shades they tend to want to lenghen. You can adjust them kind of, although there is nothing in the manual, as there is not a manual, just a parts list. You can adjust them by taking the bottom weight off, and adding or subtracting turns from the roller. With the way the brackets are made they don't hug the wall, so if you mount them on the outside of your window frame, they will have a lot of light leakage around the edges.

We have window wells that are precisely 34" wide. We order 34-inch blinds. Unfortunately, with the hardware installed onto the main rod, the actual product ends up being nearly 1/8" or so wider. That's enough that it didn't fit. I expect other folks will hit this issue, so be careful and order a size up if you need to!

This blackout blind is going to be the end of me.The first hurdle I faced was finding out how to mount the silly thing. Apparently, there are no screw holes or mounting hardware on the shade unit itself. Instead, you put up spring-loaded brackets onto the wall and then notch them into a groove on the shade base unit. Okay. I can deal with that. What killed my hands and fingers was that the shade was jammed right out of the box. After numerous attempts at pushing and pulling I finally managed to figure out that I needed to (force)feed the shade's bottom bar and handle back through the base unit and out of the roll on the other side. Only then, could the shade be freely moved up and down. What the hey. If I had tried to fix this after I had mounted it on the wall, I would've ripped the brackets out of the wall for sure. I gained at least a dozen grey hairs because of this. Even after fixing it, it still feels like the roll was installed backwards. On the bright side, it IS a very beautiful, sleek-looking unit, and a perfectly matte black that works well to block the light. So, once you get everything up where it needs to be, it does look and work well. But, I shall ever feel I need to be watchful to make sure the shade doesn't get jammed again.
