Using a plenty of cutting fluid, a vise and a very large wrench to turn, I was able to cut a nice tapered NPT thread on a piece of 1/2 inch black pipe.I added a slight taper to the pipe with a grinder first, so could get the die started on the pipe.This is a quality die.

Worked great to thread PVC pipe nipples so I could adjust sprinkler heads to the lawn surface. I put the die in the vise and jiggered up a collet for the pipe and it worked just fine, but not as quickly as a real pipe threader machine I'm sure.

This is a nice tool for the application of we had. I don't think it would cut any threads in 3/4" stainless steel pipe, (which my application has.) I've never used this style pipe die to actually cut threads in 3/4" iron pipe, so I can't speak to that application. I'm not sure how you could actually rotate this die to cut threads, unless you have a really large, long die handle that fits it, (I've never seen one, but I'd like to.) I used it to remove a hardening pipe thread seal that appeared to be some type of epoxy on the threads of the drain on a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer Drain hose and for this, it is perfect!
