This is a great, multi-purpose cooling fan. Itรขโฌโขs fairly compact with the 120mm form factor, and can move a lot of air if needed. It makes little noise, ranging from barely audible at about 1/3 speed or less, to a light hum/air rush sound at maximum speed. There is no annoying whining or high pitched whirring noise at all. The fan has four isolation feet so you can place it flat on a surface and still have clearance to pull air through the fan. Those feet are made from a fairly stiff plastic/silicone material and may not isolate the fan quite as well as soft, rubber feet would. The hub of the fan is labeled รขโฌลhydraulic bearingรขโฌย, which is just an oil-lubricated sleeve bearing. That type of bearing is less prone to make annoying, high-pitched whining noises than ball bearing, but may not last as long as a ball bearing would. Itรขโฌโขs all a trade-off, but to me a sleeve bearing is fine for a multi-purpose fan like this.If you need a small variable speed fan, this is a good one to consider. It works well and is about as quite as a fan can get.

My old surround sound system's small fan died, but the unit was still functional. All I did was remove the surround sound systems cover, use an angle grinder to cut some slits into the top, attach this fan above my new vent, and put it all back together. It works great and no longer shuts off because of overheating.
