I purchased these to construct an artists' easel. Will need to insert these into 3/4 inch hard maple. The vendor provides a large number of these units for the price and they seem to be well made. There are no instructions included in the packaging, hence knocking off one star. I didn't see any instructions in the product description. Through trial and error, I have determined that the 1/4-20 inch unit needs a 3/8 inch whole to easily, but securely, thread into hardwood. May be different for softwoods or plywood. Also, the correct size hex key to drive these inserts is 6mm. A 1/4 inch hex is a bit loose.

Used these to make a spoil board for my CNC and they worked great. Installed in MDF and they’re holding up just fine.
