The other reviews were correct and they do smell absolutely wretched the first time you open them but that's temporary and they're fine. They work great for my group's needs and are so much easier to use than the big disc that you can only hover over your characters.

Easy to use in visualizing area affects. Since the circles, squares, and triangles are hollow, the players don’t have to move their miniatures to use.

I only received the 1 long yellow piece. Yet more yellow pieces are shown in the product. That's why I bought it.

Plastic feels pretty sturdy. Numbers are large and easily readable.

Role playing/D&D gamers will love these. These templates are great for area spells. They are easy to see and easy to tell where your spell will hit. They work good for area ground spaces and because they are open you can place them on your map without interfering with the grid or figures already placed on the mat. We use a grid mat so the straight-line pieces don’t help us much but the others are very handy.

My husband started a campaign with our four sons and we got these to have a visual of effects like spell casting. They come packaged well in a box and aren’t flimsy. I like that they’re color-coded. They’re easy to understand how to use.

I both like and dislike this set. I've wanted a set of area of effect templates for quite a while, but I've never cared for the idea of the flat sheet ones that require picking up all the minis in the area. This frame-style is a more practical solution and the thickness of the acrylic makes them sturdy. Their labels are also clear and easy to read. Unfortunately, the dimensions are not as accurate as one might expect and other aspects could use quality of life tweaks.Edge-to-edge, the 40' cube, 20' radius, and 30' cone are exactly right, 8", 8", and 6". Applying the same measuring method, the 30' cube, 15' radius, and 15' cone are all 1/8" too big. Relative to the center of their areas, that's really only 1/16" farther to the edge in any direction and, while not ideal, it's close enough to be acceptable. Similarly, the line templates are all 1/8" shorter and narrower - again, not too far off. It gets worse from there, however. The 10' radius is 3/16" too big, 20' cube is 1/4" too big, and the 10' cube and 5' radius are each 3/8" too big. Those last two are 18.75% larger than they should be, and that will make a difference on the battlefield.Opening the bag, there is a very strong odor that reminds me of paint thinner for enamels. Good news is it's the bag, not the templates. It's an unusual bag material I've never seen before and definitely smells like some kind of solvent.I expect each shape is the same color to make efficient use of material while cutting them out, but I don't think this is the most functionally useful application of color for these. Shapes are easy to distinguish, so I think it would be better if the colors corresponded to the sizes instead. Best of both worlds might be to use clear acrylic and print their faces with different colors. The colored acrylic does look awesome, though. It'd also be a little bit better if both sides had the size printed on them so they wouldn't necessarily need to be right side up for it to be visible.Lastly, it may be necessary to keep the box for storing these. Flat sheet templates have the advantage that they're easy to put inside a folder or book, while these are less easily stored. I would love for these to have shipped in a reusable storage sleeve, slip-case, or even a molded plastic holder.Overall, I feel like this product shows promise, but still needs additional refinement to become something I could recommend.

These are good for when we're using battle maps and someone just has to cast a spell or wants to argue about NOT being in an area. The colors are nice to let them stand out. This does make it a bit easier to see when looking at it from above. Overall, these are handy to have, and they take a lot of the guesswork out of just what areas are affected by what.
