I used this to remove a broken plastic pool drain plug within the filter housing. I was skeptical it'd grab on to the plastic without slipping but it did. It allowed me to unscrew it. Saved me over $1,000in potential repairs or replacement of the filter housing. Also, this is a third of the price of just 1 of the pieces included when buying at your local big box hardware store.

What I have found with these kits is that they are hit and miss. This one is no different. 99% of the time my standard drain wrenches will work fine. This is for the random one that has holes that are totally corroded and snap off when you try to twist the drain out. It might not work, in which case I carefully use a rotary tool to cut slots in the flange's top and then smack with a flat blade screw driver and mallet. Don't expect this to be a primary tool. It's just another option when the real tools fail.

Highly recommend you duct tape thick cloth around the area before starting. I had to remove a 30+ year old drain that felt like it was welded in place. First tried using channel-locks, no luck so used this tool with a breaker bar and a lot of liquid wrench and got it loose.

This tub drain Strainer remover wouldn't grab hold of the Strainer. Used a hammer too. Sent it back and found another one that worked well.

When standard methods won't get the drain out due to the cross bars being damaged or corroded, you need this tool. The way it works is that the tool's teeth bites into the sides of the bathtub drain flange and the tighter it's turned, the harder it'll bite. Just know it will leave a mark, so don't expect to reuse the old flange. I wasn't, as it's because my old one was tarnished and pitting.Specialized? Yes, as this is only a removal tool. However, getting this tool is way cheaper than any service call to a plumber, and that's the value. 5 stars.

I needed to get a stubborn drain out of my tub and this tool came in very handy. This tool is very handy and took out my stubborn drain. I didn't have any problems getting the drain out in the tool threads are like brand new it's seems to be pretty heavy duty. I was putting a lot of force and torque on it. So if you're in the need of trying to get a stubborn old drain s out of your tub this tool comes in very handy around the house or even a professional plumber.
