This is a review for a Fantaseal Gear Keeper CB Mic Holder retractable Microphone Hook Holder.This is an interesting piece of kit for a mobile radio operator. First, I was impressed with the smoothness of the retractable cable. I do not expect the cable to catch on clothes or dash material. The retraction is rather assertive, and should handle most mics for mobile radios. The retraction is smooth and firm. The reel body has HK style hooks to attach to a variety of anchor points.The kit provides “D†ring brackets to attach the reel to the vehicle or other surface. I plan on attaching it to the side of my radio go box so the mic doesn’t fall to the ground. I’ll be putting it together this weekend. If there are any significant problems, I’ll come back and edit my review.This could also be used to attach a small tool to your gear so it does not fall. I currently have one unit attached to a crimp tool that must be used on a ladder.This is a nice, multi-purpose retractable mic/tool holder. Buy it if you need a retention device.

While this works for the advertised purpose, it really seems that this apparatus has been repurposed from some other function.The spring in the retractable cord portion seems just barely adequate now, I really do not know if it can hold up over time (1month? 6months? 1 year?).It's designed to hang so it adds more distractions to the sightlines. If there were some way to mount the retractable coil flat to whatever surface it attaches to, that could conquer some of the clutter.Good idea, not the best implementation, but works fine as long as you know what you're getting into.

I can't comment on how well this would hold the heavier CB microphones that professional truckers may use, but for holding gadgets in an SUV these are great. For example, a small flashlight (if it has a way of attaching) to keep the flashlight in an easy to find place clipped in the back hatch while still having flexibility with pointing it in any direction.Additional, great for photography and hiking purposes for the same reason, like with a small flashlight on a belt loop or camera bag. The spring is stronger than the common ID lanyard types which are usually too weak.The metal pocket clip is removeable and for gluing to a flat surface with exposing, than is possible by filing down the plastic notches. Or if attaching to a vehicle interior panel where the inside of the panel can be accessed, with some longer screws and drilling a few holes, this could be mechanically secured. The other parts included are nice (screws, d-rings, mini quick release loops)

So this comes with 2 detractors, and 4 sets of hardware to use it. None of which works for hooking a mic up to it. No instructions on how to best utilize the thing. I tried it with an Astatic mic and figured out a way to kind of make it work. The mic was too heavy for it to retract. It hung down almost half the length of the string. I went back to the bunjy cord I've used for years and tossed this in the glove box.

I like the flexibility this has given me. It holds the trucker mic and the cord all the way retracted. Makes grabbing the mic and pulling towards me quick and easy. Its always where I know to grab.

All-in-all these are pretty good for being about $10 each. In many ways they replicate the name brand ones as far as function and features. Other than the string loops being too loose for my liking these are really great.It includes hardware if you want to mount them with screws. The retractable component works just fine. These even have have belt clips with them, which you don't see too often on some of these retractable mic holders.I'm pleased with these other than how loose the string loops are. I ended up tying some small knots in the loops to tighten them up better. These are at least worth your consideration.

very similar to the gear keeper. It has a good extension and should last a couple years of daily use.

I use it as a sturdier retractor for my badge and it is great! It clips onto my pants wonderfully. Definitely would buy this.
