This pet carrier has 2 snap locks on each side which are plastic. It also has 4 metal screws , one on each corner. However the 4 metal screws have to be taken out and put back in each time if you want to use the snap locks option. I bought this for a feral kitty so she could be treated by the vet without removing her from the carrier as she is very scared. So to remove the top, we have to unscrew the 4 screws and then unsnap the plastic snap locks. However the only way to unscrew the 4 bolts is with an Allen wrench. ( which is provided) But There’s no where on the carrier to put the Allen wrench to keep it with the carrier until the next use. So I taped it to the carrier. If it’s not taped to the carrier, every time I get to the vet, there’s no way to take the top off. That’s extremely inconvenient. I don’t trust the snap locks as they are plastic and small. This carrier would fine I guess if you didn’t need to remove top and if you were transporting a very small or lightweight docile animal.
