This stone/diotomaceous earth drying mat in white is the perfect size. It’s large enough to fit all my hand washables and attractive enough to leave on the counter permanently. It soaks up water while things dry and doesn’t smell mildewy the way a kitchen towel or cloth mat can get. It comes with instructions on how to clean it if necessary (water only, no soaking) and with a small sandpaper pad for any tough stains. Mine felt dusty when I took it out of the box so I rinsed it off and now it just feels like unglazed ceramic or terracotta. It’s a very soft stone so I’m being careful when placing heavy dishes on it - I have no experience with these kinds of mats so I don’t know if plopping down a heavy pot could crack or chip it (I suspect yes). The upside of it being softer is that when you do place dishes on it they have a nice landing (I don’t know how else to write that; it’s like the difference between the softer feel of placing a mug on wood vs the jarring feel of placing it on glass or granite). I really like this mat a LOT and I highly recommend it. It would make a great gift since I think these are kind of new to the market so most people don’t have one. It’d be really pretty on white countertops.

The dish mat has an VERY strong chemical odor which will not dissipate over time, no matter how long you wait or what you try. The smell permeates your house. Not recommended. This item was returned.

I love how this absorbs the water. The only thing is the hinges where you can cut to size are plastic and water runs onto the counter.

This large stone dish drying mat is a great addition to my kitchen. At 24"L x 16"W, it provides plenty of space for dishes to dry. I ordered this slightly oversized diatomaceous stone drying mat for use as a bath mat. This style with its individual slates works well for this purpose. It’s sturdy, looks great, and there are no brand names etched into or stamped onto the mat. Care instructions, a light “under mat,†and a sandpaper for removing stains are included.Now for the caution. Upon taking this item out of its box, the mat had an unpleasant odor I would classify as barnyard manure. I let the mat air out on the floor for about twenty four hours, and the good news is I could no longer detect the smell even when I put my nose to it.Due to its out-of-the-box odor I would not give this mat as a gift; however, it is functional and attractive and will suit my purposes well.

This mat is amazing. I've never seen something like this absorb water so quickly. It works really great next to my sink to keep the counter dry and neat. I am in love with it and will probably buy a second one soon for the other side of the sink.
