This fiber media converter works fine at 1gb, which is all I tested it at. 2.5gb sfp's are available, although they are not as common, which may make 2.5gb similar in cost to just jumping straight to 10gb.

I have a number of ADnet media converters and they have all been great. They are built with quality components and perform very well. Have never had any issues. These converters even look great. This model will handle either 2.5G or 1G modules. The RJ45 port is auto sensing depending on the SFP module used and the position of the flip switch. At the time of this review I have been unable to find any 2.5G fiber modules. RJ45 modules no problem. I got this converter specifically to use 2.5G fiber. Right now I am just using 1G fiber modules. Still searching for a reasonably priced 2.5G fiber module. Ugh.At the time of this review these 2.5G Ethernet to Fiber Media Converters were unavailable. Not surprised because I bet ADnet products sell pretty fast because of the high quality of their products. If I have the choice between getting ADnet or another product, I go with ADnet for the same specs.

This is well constructed, has a nicer power supply than other units, and handles both 2.5G and 1G SFPs. These days there is little point in running CAT7 or CAT8 for 100 feet, optical ends up being cheaper, it's not vulnerable to lightning surges the way copper is, and it doesn't interfere with your radio. I have some long outdoor runs through conduit that will use direct-burial fiber.

I got this for a media converter unit with a 2.5G SFP and it has been solid so far. Very easy to set up and the SFP port can be configured for 2.5G or 1G depending on the SFP using. The Ethernet port is autosensing.
