the ends are pretty rough. there was a little play with the bearings i used but im pretty sure that was the bearings and not the rod as they were $1 each

Are you kidding me? Boggles the brain to see someone complain about the finish on the end cuts of these. I received two 16mm x 200mm ('bout 5/8" x 8") chromed hardened c45 steel rods. A caliper shows mine fluctuating 'round .03mm on the 16mm diameter (whole length) - so, within a .001 of an inch. They're asking ten bucks for the two and I can get them next day delivery. I can get the 16mm in lengths up to 600mm (24") - 48 " of machined hardened c45 rod offered at 25 bucks. With the close tolerance of these rods I can use them as arbors, spindles, slides, etc... These rails were the accurate length and diameter. They were completely straight and they are strong

I plan on using these for sliding a tool on them. They are uniform from one end to the other and are of good material. No deformities that I can see. There's not much else to say about them other than the price is fair. Seems to be a reasonable value, I'd purchase again.

The rails are fine, it's just that they were cut by some guy with a hacksaw. You will have to dress the ends up and square them too if your project needs that.

These were probably flawless when they left the manufacturing facility, but Amazon packaging was so minimal that the box end failed and with no other packaging material , one of the rods fell out onto the concrete porch when it was delivered. I think I can dress up the damage, but Amazon fulfillment center should package a lot better. If I didn't need them so badly, I would return and replace, but likely with the same result. Disappointed with the packing crew.

I'm trying to build a small CNC from leftover parts and I needed the 8mm rods for the carriage to be a little longer. So I ordered these in 350mm length and they fit perfectly in my head carriage, in which the linear bearings were already installed (got it from a friend).The rods have a very smooth surface and seem very rigid. Just right for this purpose.
