We have a Watts 500800 instant hot water system. One of the plastic sensor / valve units wasn't working - the valve did not close in response to hot water, so we ended up with a LOT of hot water in the cold water pipe.Removed the plastic unit, replaced with this steel version. It's clean, well-made, solid, and comes with washers. Very easy to install (easier than the plastic version, because there's much less chance than you'll damage the threads).Tested it by: (i) turn off the main cold valve under the sink; (ii) turn on the COLD faucet. Because you've just turned off the main valve, you'd think that no water would come out, but it does because warmish water flows (from the hot line) through the sensor / valve. (iii) when that warmish water gets really hot, the sensor / valve that you're testing automatically closes, so the hot water stops flowing from the cold faucet. After testing, just turn on the main cold valve under the sink, and you're good to go.

It's working great for a month so far. We really need a new brand to compete with the old plastic version to encourage the manufactory to improve their product. I have replaced 5 old plastic bypass valve in the last 3 years. The check valve on the cold water side always got stuck and caused the cold water to run through the hot water side. On the new stainless version, it has a spring on the check valve. It should work better technically.Anyway, the time will tell. I'll see how long the new version will lost.

Don't pay 2 or 3 times more for an OEM version of the same product. This is a great buy and works well. Installation is easy and it includes all the washers and adapters you need for a quick install.

When I replace an original part with a new one, I need to decide whether to trade the quality of the original manufacturer (name-brand, etc) for a cheaper alternative. Usually, it's a decision of whether the dependability and reputation of the manufacturer justifies the typically higher price, or whether the part is simple enough that there's not much risk. This time, the new, cheaper part (so far, at least) is superior to the original Grundfos version, for one simple reason: it's solid metal. The original plastic part has threads which can easily be ruined while trying to screw on the hoses, especially since the nuts on the hoses become stiff over time and are not easy to screw on without a wrench. The part also comes with optional parts (gaskets, hose nut size converters, etc), which I didn't need, but overall a much better experience and product than the original manufacturer part I replaced. Now to see if it lasts longer than the original (~5 years)

This is the 3rd time I have had to replace my Grindfos’s bypass valve so I decided to give this one a try. Very solidly made and love the fact it isn’t a cheap plastic piece. The thread sizing was the same, although the orientation is a little different than the original. Was a very easy install and is working great. Time will tell. The Grundfos valves only last about 2 years so hoping this one lasts longer

Seems like a solidly built bypass valve. Bought it as back up for when the original plastic valves needs replacement so I have not tested it ye.Minus one star for not including the commonly used 3/8' adapters.

Received my all metal sensor valve. Easy to install and works perfectly. Don't waste your money on the Watts brand which I had to replace 3 times in a year. This item works perfectly.

Works ok but sounds like hammer drill when the valve opens. Screwing to the wall just gives it a sounding board.
