Step 1
Apply Knifeless tape to a panel, arranging the tape in the shape of the design you want to cut.
Step 2
Apply the vinyl over the top of the knifeless tape, smoothing out any creases and air bubbles.
Step 3
Pull the end of the tape to free the cutting filament inside (it will look like a length of string).
Step 4
Pull the filament smoothly to slice the vinyl. Then remove the excess vinyl, and enjoy your design.

Works great for many applications. The tape adheres well to any surface and creates a clean cut through vinyl even the thicker materials. Even if you need to pick it up and re lay it, it will still adhere.

So I have a matte black Bell helmet that is really hot in summer and I wanted to get some relief so I bought 5 feet of car wrap and gave this a try. I watched the 3M video and starting the line was easy but the cut line sometimes does its job and sometimes I had to cut a little of the vinyl to get it started. Other times the line would break halfway (even though I was pulling at a ~30° angle) and then I would pull the rest by starting at the other end. My wrapping skills are terrible with bubbles and creases but tomorrow I'll see if it was worth the effort. If not then I'll just dip it.

It took me a little practice to figure out how to use this knifeless tape without breaking it. After a few tries, I was good to go.

Okay. Lessons learned from an advanced beginner. This particular product is intended for design cuts. Meaning, on a flat surface where you have two colors coming together. The tape is very small width (3.5mm) 3m offers a variety of widths… And it matters.When you wrap say where your door and fender lines are. You want 3m Bridge line tape (not to be confused with Design line) as this is specifically made thicker/wider for these joints. This tape is wide enough to cover the joint panel to panel leaving the string in the middle for a perfect cut and tuck. Triline is thicker than design lines 3.5mm. It is best used at areas of transition and indentation and in some panel joints and so on. This website for some reason only offers design line style tapes. It was very frustrating in the beginning.I can say, without a doubt prep is everything. No different than body work prior to paint. All kinds of tips and tricks out there (Youtube) Also, heat gun is your best friend when used cautiously as not to over heat things. This tape worked great for its intended application. The other tapes are hard to find good luck.Hope this helps from one beginner to another…
