The plastic fabric is thicker & sturdier than others. Both the blankets and ponchos have saved us during cross-country travel. The reflective lining is truly a lifesaver in cold weather.

This product is just a garbage. I wore it once going The Wave, where was rarely storming that day. I used it with the silver side inside. Unfortunately, the silver coating were just a layer of dyed coating, which was transferred onto my skin and caused significant staining on my backpack. The silver coating was fake Mylar. After used it two times that day, not much silver coating left. This product does not keep warm at all and causes serious concern regarding the quality of the product. Don't buy it! It cannot be used as an emergency blanket.

We keep these in the car, and also at home in case of power failures during ice storms, when the heat is lost. The poncho is excellent, since heat is lost from the head, first. The two added blankets are also helpful to have on hand. We have one poncho for each of our dogs, and one for each person. We have, of course, plenty of blankets, but these are extremely lightweight.Clearly, they'd be excellent when outdoors, too, in an emergency.
