Protects the lens edge when bumped. I have used these collapsable lens hoods with success, ONLY if the rubber hood is Gorilla Glued is carefully set to the collar. Not doing this, the hood is easily bumped off and potentially lost, resulting in disappointment.

So it's a lens hood, and it does that very well. The only issue is that because it's rubber, when I slide the camera into my bag, the rubber lens hood often comes off it's front lens element screw mount. If you were really committed to this hood, you'd want to get some epoxy and glue the rubber hood to the screw on mount. I feel like they should be doing that in the factory, and then charging a little more for the product. But end of day, this is really cheap, and it's hard to complain too much about a cheap product.

I will be returning this hood for two reasons:Main is that the hood I received is not what is pictured. . If the hood I received were proportioned like the one illustrated it would be narrow enough to fit inside my camera case. It's not shaped or proportioned the same, and won't fit inside the case -- it is NOT the hood pictured. See my comparison images. Received hood, by the way, is 4-inches wide.On top of that it is just poorly designed -- rubber part separates too easily from mounting ring.The shipped item ought to match the product illustration!

All other items were without fault except for the Adapter Ring. My camera is a Canon SX60 HS and I managed to break the Lens Cap. I found these items for a reasonable price and after measuring the inside diameter of my lens (the diameter is not indicated on the lens) to make certain of the size, I ordered them.They arrived as promised but when I tried to screw in the Adapter Ring, it was too small and falls out.THAT IS THE ONLY ISSUE.I am not saying the product was incorrectly marked or that it was somehow the manufacturer's fault. I am advising anyone wanting to buy this item, be very sure of your measurements. At this point, I really don't know if I ordered the incorrect size or if the size of the Adapter Ring I received was wrong.The Lens Cap, the item I needed, fits absolutely fine!? GO FIGURE?
