Do you need this church key? Probably not. Most people open paint cans with a screwdriver. If you seriously drink beer, you don’t need an opener to remove caps (in fact, if you can’t open a beer bottle without an opener you shouldn’t be allowed to drink beer). However, church keys make opening paint cans so much easier. I never knew how much better they are until I actually used one. The major difference being that it doesn’t damage the paint cans as much so resealing the can actually works.

Need to open a bottle,, remove a beer cap, metal lid too tight on that jar, can't open that hermetically sealed cardboard box of goodies?... this is the tool for the job. So many bottle & can openers these days don't have a simple flat-head/pry type bar end for breaking the seal on jars that the lid is on too tightly & the little pointed tip on most bottle openers either can't get under the jar lid or slides off, or is too dangerous to use. I have several of these around the house & yard: in the kitchen, in tool & garden shed, in garage, for crafts. I highly recommend this tool.
