I've used this ice meter for many years. Always does a great job. Works much better than calcium chloride, and you use less.

We recently had our driveway and walkway replaced and I was interested in finding an ice melter that was less harmful to concrete than sodium chloride. I did a little research and found that magnesium chloride offered the best compromise between effective temperature range and low reactivity on concrete surfaces.In actual use, this product seemed to do well in keeping ice melted when applied to bare ice, but, not unlike sodium chloride formulations, it doesn't melt accumulated snow that might be covering the ice, so that has to be removed before applying this product. It seems to take a bit longer to melt the ice, but the difference isn't enough to risk damaging the concrete with a sodium chloride formulation.

I would not recommend this to boost your MG. It mixes like mud. However - I mixed up a "Randy" solution, let the dirt settle, and siphoned off the mostly clear liquid (greenish tinge) . Used it, and it worked, no harm to my Monties. Tank is crystal clear, corals healthy at 1350MG - after a week of observation.In the future I will buy the Mortens magflake and try that.I can't give less than 5 stars since I'm using the product for something else.

The material is in broken shards rather than uniform pieces so it is very difficult to get out of the shaker. An inefficient, difficult mess. There are much better products available.

Product works, but one contained had damaged cap, product spread open in box.
