Got a bug for another project so I figured I'd build a valve spring tester for length and compression. Used a Xiao esp32s3, hx711, lcd2004 and this strain gauge with a bit of programming carve from some examples. Combined with an arbor press and a ruler, it works.

I connected the load cell to an indicator. I have made several attempts to adjust it but the results always change. It does not have good linearity, impossible to use like this.

Hooked it up to a Hx711 and Arduino to log impact forces up to 5 tons. Worked beautifully.

They were reasonably easy to set up for an automated line if you set up a PID and verify the scale using a known load.Control Logix was the easiest way for us to set these up, but if they had been able to be set up for a 24 vdc supply power, we may have gotten a bit more granularity.Still, they work well for what we needed.
