Love these, cute designs, small, but just right for the job, thick enough to absorb and retain moisture for a good while. I had an unopened 7 lb bag of brown sugar go totally solid. I soaked these, now the brown sugar is soft, usable and almost used up. I love having a bunch on hand. The price was a great value, great gadget!

I had two large containers, about 1lb each of rock-hard brown sugar. Overnight they were soft as first purchased. I followed the instructions to wash and bake first to thoroughly dry, then soaked for several hours, hand dry then insert in a plastic storage container with my rock-hard sugar. So much better than trying to microwave.

Packaged well so they didn't chip or break. Wish they were in a box for storing them. I love the designs on them. I already put one in my brown sugar.

All of them arrived chipped or completely broken. But, they are terra cotta and do the job.

Oh, these are marvelous! The first time I purchased a similar clay disk like this to remoisten brown sugar, it didn’t work. The second time, unwilling to put more money into something that didn’t work the first time, I used a broken shard from a clay pot I deliberately broke into pieces to use for drainage ; it also didn’t work. The problem is I didn’t know it needed to be prepared first. I know now to addmaintain moisture to something, I need to soak the clay in water for 15 minutes, then dry completely. Thanks to the information provided by this vendor and my public education science class, I now know how and why it works. This means I now know there are many other uses for them and they’re not just in the kitchen. I bought this particular set mainly because they’re small but I also really like the shapes of these and the different designs on them. I bought a four piece set a few months ago and they work fine, but they’re too big for placing into many of jars I use. I’m glad they’re a few different sizes in this set. I’m likely to get at least one more set but I plan to look for other sets with even smaller discs. These work by essentially equalizing the moisture in whatever closed space it’s in. Because of this attribute, I know it can be used to either add and then maintain moisture to something or to draw moisture out. I’ve actually had one in my large container of brown sugar for years and have never had to remoisten it. I don’t recall soaking it initially so it may be possible for a company to pre-moisten them, seal the package, then send it out. Or maybe I actually read the directions and prepared it but just don’t remember doing it. Regardless, I like these unprepared because they’re being used to humidify some containers and dehumidify others. It’s important to note that just as you prepare them to humidify, you must also do so to dehumidify. To prepare a disk to dehumidify, you must bake them in a low oven for a few minutes (see the product page or exact instructions). These can be used to keep grains, like rice, or anything else dry. It’s not about the object, it’s the humidity or moisture in the container. These may be useful for keeping art supplies dry, like stored watercolor paper, if you keep it in a closed space. If it’s a large container like a tote, you may need more than one. I have yet to test this. It’s important that you’re able to place whatever you’re trying to add or take water from in a container that can be completely sealed. One little disk in a bowl of brown sugar that’s either extremely porous or has a hole in it, can’t humidify an entire room or house. I had two spice jars with two vanilla pods I purchased easily 10 years ago. They were at the back of a cupboard and had been forgotten. Despite being in sealed glass spice jars, they were like twigs from a tree. I didn’t have much hope. Oh my! I pour all four in a mason jar, added one of these prepared disk and after 3 or 4 days, they were easily 3-4 times their size, moist, flexible, and had that sweet vanilla smell! I am positive that they didn’t look this good when I first bought them because I distinctly remember thinking they looked like black thin shoe laces in jars. They’re still more flat than round but they are about 3 times wider than they were when I first purchased them! I used half of one to make crème brûlée by scraping the seeds out. There weren’t a lot of seeds, but there were seeds! I put the cleaned, spent pod in a small mason jar with about one cup of sugar to see if I would get vanilla sugar and I did!

I have a large family and so I buy foods and ingredients in bulk. I had a 25lb bucket of brown sugar that had gone completely solid. Long story short, we bought these disks, soaked them in a bowl of water patted them dry and set them in the bucket. The next day we opened it again expecting to scrape more sugar out with a knife, but the whole bucket was simply scoopable, like nothing had ever happened. I cannot recommend these enough. Oh and the designs are super cute too, who could ask for more?

I love that it keeps my brown sugar moist and easy to scoop out. The designs that come with it are also cute and you can swap them out during different seasons if that's your thing. Worth it!

J’en ai mis dans ma cassonade et c’est la première fois qu’elle reste humide comme il se doit. Petit, facile à utiliser, bonne idée.
