I 3D print a lot of parts as prototypes for machined aluminum bits, to make sure they all go together before we make them out of metal. One part of that is to actually assembly the 3D printed thing, which involves threading the plastic for the bolts. Usually I just use the bolt itself to cut the thread into the plastic, but these taps make a huge difference! They fit in my small impact driver, and are really quick to swap in and out. My one gripe is that the bits themselves are not color coded, so I usually have to fumble through about 3 of them before I find the right size.

Letting a set of taps jingle around on a carabiner seems like a poor choice, but the bit holder keychain is actually quite useful for ordinary 1/4" hex shank driver bits. It's faster and more convenient than keeping them organized in a case, that's for sure. The combination drill-taps are OK, not great, they do work, but the threads I have cut by them in aluminum are rather shallow and produce a loose fit to matching machine screws. They do work, so for applications that don't need a great deal of strength, these will absolutely get used for their unmatched convenience and speed.

***FULL DISCLOSURE: Item was received for free through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an unbiased review.***This set of driver holders is quite useful, as long as you don't plan on actually carrying it around with you or clipping it to your belt. The taps will bang against each other and chip, and also it's very jangly because of the way they're spaced.Instead, I ended up taking the rings off the carabiner, and using them to hold other impact bits directly on my peg wall. All in all, the components are all useful, just not all together.

Review: 6pcs HSS Combination Drill & Tap Bit Set with Bit Holder KeychainI like that I don’t have to search for the correct size drill bit to use with the tap. Each of the bits length is about 2 3/16â€. 1/4†for the drill, 5/8†for the tap and 1/8†for the shank.I used one of the drill/taps to re-tap some inserts in an aluminum storm door. I was concerned about the length of the drill part because the door is only 1†thick. Approximately 3/8†of the insert needed to be tapped leaving less than 3/4†extra room fortunately the drill part is only 5/16†leaving 1/2†extra to thread the insert with the tap part. When storing the holder sleeve needs to be pulled up for both install and removal of the bit taking both hands.

These little guys are great you have one tool to do both. Just remember you Its never a good idea to tap with a power drill, unless you are using a slow speed well and controlled. I only did one of the holes both drilled and tapped with my Dewalt, the rest I drilled then switched to a 1/4in ratchet to ensure controlled threads that don't strip. The result turned out pretty good I think. The only trouble I ran into was with drilling with the 10-32 bit. It seamed to have a bad 135 degree point on the bit, it kept wondering all over the place. I believe the price is fair, I have paid more for less quality products. An additional benefit is that they come with a nice quick release set that keeps them organized.

I tried these on some scrap aluminum that was about 1/8" thick and they worked great. I was really surprised how well they worked. I also tried them on so steel sheet metal that was about 1/16 thick and they worked fine which is good because it means I don't have to use self tappers I can use any cheap sheet metal screw.

These are a bit scary if you know anything about tapping holes. But they work ok for sheet metal. Kind of fun, compared with hand tapping, and haven't broken one yet. The key ring magnet thing is rather useless.
