I have been working with stone for many years but have limited experience with splitting stone. These wedges are nice and will hold up to multiple uses without issue. I have worked with the old style feathers and wedges but prefer using this style with the rubber o ring that helps hold it all together. These come with a drill bit that is fine for splitting thinner stones but I like a longer bit for the larger boulders and ledge just to help keep the split in the direction I want. The only drawback with this style I see is if you hit the rubber too much it will break.

These tools work well, but the drill bit only lasted through six holes in granite. The tip melted on the 7th hole. Be aware that the bit is for a hammer drill that uses SDS-Plus bits. These will not chuck correctly in a standard drill.

I have used standard wedges before, with varying degrees of success. This is a different to approach the problem. And i think it is quite clever and effective. I do think you may need to replace the rubber bands over time. But tools wear out, so that isn't a flaw.
