About this item

  • TMC2208 is an ultra-quiet two-phase stepper motor drive chip, continuous drive current 1.4A, peak current 2A, voltage range 4.75V-36V, 256 subdivision.
  • The flexible microPlyer interpolation unit provides up to 256 subdivisions, allowing perfect sinusoidal control even in systems with limited pulse frequencies; these are also designed because stealthChop2 ultra-quiet technology is widely used in 3D printing.
  • Compatible with existing 3D printer electronics, eliminating the expensive costs of redesign. It can replace the original TMC2100 A4988 DRV8825 LV8729, lower heat, especially for 3D printing market.
  • With this adapter you can test your SilentStepStick or flash the TMC2208 SilentStepStick with an USB-to-serial converter.
  • The adapter comes with stackable headers, so you can use it direct on your 3D printer board. The tester is pre-configured for standalone operation on an USB to serial adapter (VIO-VM jumper closed).

Specifications:
Interface: Step/Dir
Configuration: CFG Pins or UART
Native Microsteps: up to 1/256
MicroPlyer Microsteps: 1/256
Logic Voltage (VIO): 3-5V
Motor Voltage (VM): 4.75-36V
Motor Phase Current max: 1.2A RMS, 2.0A Peak.

Therefore, the reference voltage of the driver module should not exceed 1V.
At the same time, the driver module must be dissipated, otherwise it will affect the life of the driver module.

Note:
TMC2208 driver needs extra fan to cool it, otherwise the high temperature may destroy it.
Do not connect the motor when measuring the voltage, otherwise it is easy to burn the driver.
Power should be connected when measuring voltage, do not just connect USB power supply.

Package Includes:
6 X TMC2208 Driver
6 X Heat Sink
1 X Screwdriver

Installed these on my Tevo Tornado. It went from emitting a high-pitched squeal that I couldn't stand being in the room with to being completely silent during operation (only remaining noise is the fans). Best upgrade I've made so far. I should have done it years ago.Install is pretty simple. If you know how to use a volt meter and your comfort with hardware modification is at least at "can swap a hard drive in a computer" level, you shouldn't have any difficulty. The whole job, including firmware flashing (because these drivers run opposite to the default drivers in the Tornado) took me about an hour and a half. Likely could be significantly less, if you read up on what to do beforehand, rather than taking the "figure it out as you go" approach that I did.The only slight quibble I have is with the packaging. It was just the six chips, each in their own anti-static bag, tossed into a zip-lock. Would have expected them to be in a box, to avoid damage during shipping. The only protection for the pins was that they each were pressed into some foam. In their defense, everything arrived undamaged and they worked great, so "no harm, no foul" I guess. Thought I'd mention it, though, as it seems like asking for trouble during shipping.

I've only tested one so far but it's working well and very quietly. knocking 1 star off because the screwdrivers provided are Phillips and useless. the product image shows flathead which is what you want for these trimpot screws.

I upgraded the board on my Ender 3 v2 to an SKR Pro v1.2 and bought this set of drivers to use with the new board. They were super noisy, and the drivers on my extruder and second Z were very weak and made my printer unusable. I ended up replacing them with different drivers which fixed my issues, these drivers are going in the trash.
