Two months ago, I had to drill holes through railroad ties. I was looking to insert rebar through the ties to anchor them to the ground. Even using my hammer drill, I had the toughest time drilling holes because I did not have a hammer drill bit like this one. This “Rotary Hammer Drill Bit†would have made that job a hole lot easier.In looking over this “5/8 inch X 12.2 inch SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill Bitâ€, I can tell that this is a solid, precision, and high quality piece. This bit is primarily made to drill through concreate or stone, so drilling through railroad ties should be easy. The tip of the bit is a carbide tip and feels sharp to the touch. The entire bit feels very heavy and solid.That first project of drilling through the railroad ties is over. But I’m sure I’ll have to do more drilling of either railroad ties or some kind of concreate block. This bit will make those future projects a lot easier. Additionally, this bit is much less expensive than similar ones you can buy from the big box stores.

Used this with a standard rotohammer, going into concrete slab for hold downs. After 5 minutes, the thing went slightly more than a quarter inch. Ended up buying a Hilti, and throwing this one in the dumpster.
