Turns out Breville recommends vinegar for descaling. I returned this.

Excellent product with good instructions on use. Descaling is important for taste and avoiding stuff like bacteria or mold.

I don’t quite know what to make of these. First, the packaging makes clear that they are intended for Breville espresso machines. I have a Breville automatic drip machine. The manual for Breville says to use Durgol, which is amidosulfonic acid. The liquid portion of this descaler is citric acid based. I also note that many espresso machine manufacturers caution against descaling at all, unless absolutely necessary, preferring instead to be very careful about water quality.Since my machine is an automatic drip, it lacks all the complexity of an espresso machine, and since I have used citric acid in it for years, I had no issue with trying this. It worked great. My wife commented positively about this mornings coffee and I had not told her I had cleaned the pot.As for the tablets, I cannot say. There is no information about the active ingredient. They are intended to clean the portafilter on an espresso machine. I don't have one. Maybe it is just more citric acid. Maybe something else. My guess is that, whatever it is, it is too strong for the innards of a complex espresso maker but is suitable for the portafilter.

Works effectively on my expresso machine. 2 bottles of solution should last approx 2 years, cleaning every 3 months. Good value.
