The good: This is a nice varied kit for repairing small light-weight devices. It might even be useful for things like tape and record players. The plastic seems good quality; I didn't test to failure but just bending a piece in my hand, it feels flexible but strong. The pieces grip the axles pretty tightly.My set contains a single metal gear, but the rest of the gears are plastic. The metal gear does not have a grub screw, it is press-fit just like all the plastic gears.The bad: The axles are smooth, as are the holes in the gears. There's going to be a pretty severe limit on how much torque these can handle before they start slipping.-1 star for smooth axles limiting the real mechanical value. +4 stars for variety and being made of good quality materials.

For $8 (as of this review), the variety of gear types and sizes here and the overall value is incredible. Various sized 2mm rods are also included, as are pulley wheels and a few rubber bands. I think this would work well for teaching basic gearing ratio dynamics.Highly satisfied overall and would definitely order again. 5 stars.
