I used this to connect my home network to my workshop, via fiber run through about 80' or 25m of conduit. One media converter was indoors, the other in a covered box outside. This worked well for a period of time, but one of the devices eventually failed. While the media converter is advertised as having a wide operating temperature range, it really cannot be used outdoors, especially when humidity or moisture is present. The media converter was in a covered box outside, but condensation from the humid PNW winter air was enough to cause a short in one of the converters. The PoE injector I used was able to handle the short, but the media converter was not.You may wonder why I give this 3 stars when it failed. It is because it would work perfectly fine indoors. The adapter was really easy to set up. It was completely plug-and-play with my PoE switch on one side of the link, and a router with a PoE injector on the other side. The link came up immediately. The network connection was rock solid. And I got a full gigabit connection between the house and the workshop. They are also rather small devices, able to squeeze in to my crowded outdoor cable box with minimal fuss. The only thing that would be nice to have is a fault indicator. I had an issue with a faulty fiber patch cable and with the failed adapter, and it was not easy to diagnose either fault because there is no fiber link indicator on the device.Even though I now have an Ethernet cable run between the house and workshop, I am likely to get a replacement, and move the fiber termination into the crawl space of the house where it is dryer and at a more stable temperature in order to have a backup network connection.

I got these to help me with a Dante setup and they seem to do the trick just fine. I like the small profile, so they don't add too much bulk to my already significant cable mess. They worked right after I fired them up, so I'm happy with everything so far.

I am giving this product a one-star rating for the following reasons:- The product description does not mention that each unit requires a power supply. Each unit has a 5mm plug, but no further details are provided.- There is no information about power requirements, including voltage or polarization.- The product lacks any documentation.- The fiber connection is not the standard audio-type fiber termination. While these units may work and could potentially deserve a higher rating, I was unable to test them due to the issues outlined above.

I needed better lighting when I took the pictures because you couldn't see the transparent tape that I had to use to keep the crushed/destroyed plastic of the package together. When this arrived in a bubble envelope, the two adapters were freely moving around and one of the protective stoppers had been knocked out.I have been updating my home networks with a mixed media cat6/7 and fiber system, so I have had a bunch of different products like new switches, hubs, converters, cables, and all of the other goodies needed when creating/updating a network(s). This set of "PoE Media Converters" is the only product that has arrived with virtually no information, and what little information is printed on the back of the box is more of an advertisement than information. Each converter has a place to add power if needed, but are you just supposed to try a bunch of power adapters in the hope that they provide enough power without frying all of your equipment? Granted, the other stuff doesn't have a ton of information and it really isn't needed, but even the cables have technical specs printed on the bags. Having a managed PoE switch on both ends allows me to power this converter, but what if I didn't have those switches?🤓**Please note that at this time there is no such thing as Power Over Fiber. Using PoE provides the power needed for the conversion process. With no mention on the product page and no included information, I do not know if these converters with a power adapter would supply power to PoE devices or not. By looking at the diagram on the box, I would have to conclude that even with a power adapter power will not be supplied to a device over cat cables. The end with the RJ45 port for cat cables has indicator lights, but the side with the Single Mode SC port has no indicator lights. You might ask what the problem with this is. Well, especially when setting up a new or replacing a network, there are a thousand little things that could go wrong, and having some indicator lights can help you start to track down the issue/error.The metal case seems quality but there is no attempt to seal the ends to prevent moisture/dirt/dust from getting inside. These do essentially work, however, I'm not getting the speeds expected/promised while using these converters. In order to properly test, I switched this set of converters out with an almost identical set of converts from a different manufacturer that cost less than the converters by CONETCH, and included the power adapters if needed. I was able to verify that it's not my other equipment or cables that are causing the slow down. These are not intended for any type of outdoor use, even when in an enclosure, and they clearly aren't good for business or corporate use. Home use should be fine, and the speed is still good enough to carry my CCTV signals across our large yard to my home office/workshop.🻠*Statement/Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon's Vine Program which provides products at a reduced cost in exchange for sincere/frank reviews. While perhaps no suitable for corporate use, this optical media adapter is just what I needed. These are two of the smallest such adapters I've found. They can get power from PoE and hide out of the way, even dangle off the ethernet connection if need be. Fiber in the home isn't very common but it's going that direction. Great thing about fiber is you can install it within the same conduit as power (generally). It's so much less hassle to do that and get adapters like these than to stress about a new conduit run. So far these adapters are living up to my expectations with good throughput and reliability.
