My abs are already conditioned from doing heavy tricep-cable press-downs each week, but wanted to try this ab roller out to sneak in ab exercises between sets. I have tried traditional ab rollers but wound up straining an old tendonitis injury in my right elbow due to straightening my arms with the traditional ab roller and being in a fully extended position. The ab roller unit is very light-weight, and I noticed the front wheels appear to have coils in side, that wind up as you push the platform forward.I like the position of the handles and how you rest your forearms and elbows on it, and it was comfortable to use it.To use this ab roller properly, once you extend out, go as far as you can to feel your abs open up, yet still able to put tension on them. At a fully extended position my face was over my forearms, not quite the elbows. Then when you retract back, just use your abs to tense back so your hands are back under your face.If you retract too far back to kneeling on your knees then you will lose tension in your abs and lose benefits of this exercise. Just think about retracting half-way each time and keep the abs tight. So I tried 100 reps (5 sets of 20 repetitions), and unfortunately didn't really feel anything in my abs the next day. But my abs are already conditioned so it could be I need some other equipment to train my abs further.I wish this machine had a tougher coiling wheel so I could push against tougher resistance, since my abs are already built up.Also, the timer that came with the unit had a battery that had ran out. Usually these timers have a protective plastic strip to keep the battery from being activated, but I did not see that on this unit.Otherwise this does appear to be safe ab roller unit for beginners. But after a few weeks or months after your abs get conditioned you will likely need a tougher exercise.

I have been wanting to start using an "ab roller" type device for some time. As a senior I know my back and my abs could both benefit. I chose this over an actual ab roller because I liked the idea of resting my upper body weight on my forearms, so that I'm not putting too much weight on my elbow joints. I hurt my left elbow years ago doing preacher curls so I am cautious when it comes to my elbows.Using this feels good. It reminds me of doing a plank, getting a good stretch and holding my weight up with my forearms. But with a plank, I remain stationary, and that's all. While using this, I feel like I am accomplishing more. I can feel muscles being used in all the places I normally feel when doing planks, but also feel it in my back and abs in ways that a plank alone cannot do.As a side note, I looked at that thin blue pad and it really didn't seem sufficient for my knees, so I used a folded up towel to cushion my knees, and laid the blue pad across the area where my forearms rest so I have double the padding for my forearms. Everything felt good and I didn't have any pain in either location.I weight 215, so I am a little close to the limit. I wasn't aware it was so low. (Thanks to another reviewer for pointing that out!) After using it, I turned it over and felt the wheels, examined the axles and everything looked fine. Nothing broken or bent, and nothing was overheated from friction. I think it would be a good idea for me to go easy on it for a while to see how it does, and then gradually ramp up my usage, speed, etc. and just check it every 20 or so reps. I made a point of not letting my forearms slide forward on the pad. It seemed like they had a tendency to do that when going forward, so I would make a slight adjustment on every return if necessary so that the weight would remain evenly distributed across all the wheels. Seems like that might be better for the wheels, and also if one does give out, my face will be more likely to simply go straight down onto my arms instead of how I might land if I were to tip the thing forward. To sum up, I got this to help my back and abs and its working. So I'll give it a little TLC and just keep on keepin' on and hope it hangs in there with me. Not a bad price so there's good value there too.

So I bought this to work on my core bc I have constant every day lower back & SI joint pain (among others)….Because of some other issues of late (namely that I wouldn’t be able to get off the floor without great effort if I got down there), I have not actually been able to really put this to the testWhat I can tell you is that now that I’m older & with osteopenia, I just don’t want to risk slipping like I have using the single wheel.Nothing like face planting or crashing down on your elbows. This gives you more confidence to perform the exercises that will help you strengthen b your core. And we all know a stronger core helps the back so I truly pray that I’m able to start using this frequently soon.I trust the quality & design of the build and I think for the money it’s a product I would order again. My physical therapist said these are good & safer.
