I used this to slow the speed of a polishing wheel that the rheostat had failed on. It worked well.

I have two larger fans that I use to keep my garage a little more comfortable during the warmer months. The problem is, they have just two speeds and both of them make more noise than I care to listen to. I will tolerate the noise on those really hot days, but if I don't need a lot of air movement, I will sometimes forgo the fans entirely just so I don't have to listen to the noise. This controller was just what I needed to have some air movement while at the same time keeping the noise to a minimum. The controller is super easy to use: just plug it into the wall, plug the fan into the unit's receptacle, turn the unit on, then turn the knob until the desired air movement and noise level are achieved (lower voltage = slower rotation = less noise).Build quality is decent, albeit plastic. There is a belt-clip-like metal tab on the back for you to hang the controller from a fan's protective grill. Two tabs at opposing corners support screws for wall mounting.Depending on the cost of your fan (or whichever motor you are connecting to this), this can be a cost effective method for achieving a bit more control over it.

I bought some used 4 foot shop fans last year to keep my un-air-conditioned workshop cool. But they have just a little too much oomph for the setting. Enter this guy! I plug it in, then plug the fan into this controller, and I can micro-manage the fan speed between low and high to get exactly what I need (and not a windstorm!) It was dead easy to use - no assembly required. It is really practical in my workshop, and I could see myself possibly using it on other electrical pieces like grinders or saws to get extra precision control over those too. It works great and solves a real problem in my workshop. And it was way, way cheaper than buying a new fan with more settings!

I picked-up the AC Motor Speed Controller 120V ,Variable Speed Controller & Fan Speed Controller with Rheostat,Variable Voltage Regulator Router for Electric Motors, to use on a heater fan that I rigged to show-the-blow but, to keep the heat at a consistent output, and it’s working perfectly for my purpose.I’m certain that in the warm months, I will use the Controller for the AC and fan, as well. This is a problem solver, and it’s a reliable unit. I’m satisfied and would buy it again.

I like a lot about this variable speed controller. I like the digital voltage display. It feels smooth and adjusts very finely all the way down to 0 volts. It works great for me. I will be using this on water pumps, vibrating motors and fans. It is going to get a lot of use around here. They say this maxes out at 15 Amps yet can peak at 4,000 Watts. But it has a cut out at 15 Amps so I cannot see how it can take that surge. Anyway, I will not come anywhere near 15 Amps with this.

Using this to control an exhaust fan and it works great. The display shows the voltage clearly.
