I ordered these gloves because I assumed electrically heated gloves would be warmer than my heaviest layered heavy knit glove/wool mitten/waterproof over mitt combination, which generally works well for me down to around 25F. These gloves failed to keep my hands warm, and it is because these gloves have no insulation to keep in the heat generated by the heating elements (which was not apparent to me when I ordered them). I tried them on two approx. 20F morning walks (pre-sunrise) and even at the highest temperature setting I could feel no warmth from the gloves. After getting home I left the gloves on and they certainly warmed up in the heated house, so they were working, they just were losing all their heat to the air. I let them sit with a thermometer in one finger, and after around 20 minutes on the highest setting the thermometer read about 100F. I imagine they would reach the advertised 140F if you folded them up in a few layers of a blanket, but I didn't bother to try as that is not the way I'd be trying to use the gloves. I'm not sure what is the point of having these electrically heated gloves when standard gloves with insulation will actually keep my hands warmer. On the pro side, the battery life was pretty much as advertised on the high setting; on the con side, the gauntlet (which contains the battery and control switch) is very bulky, and it was too tight to pull over my two layers of jacket sleeves on the arm where I wear my watch. I'd advise getting one size larger if your hand is close to the upper end of a particular size range. I have returned the gloves for a refund, and I'll look into electrically heated gloves that are actually insulated and retain their heat. Conclusion - these gloves work, but don't really fit a useful position on a spectrum of light to heavy hand-warmth protection.

the heating element is not around the perimeter of the glove. it is a square patch near the palm, on the back of the hand. don't expect these gloves to be heated at all in the finger area.
