I got sick and tired of my kitchen scales making cooking (and packing up freeze-dried goodies) more difficult and aggravating. With the glass soft-touch scales that are so common, if you just THINK about the buttons, much less accidentally wipe them or touch them with aluminum foil, next thing you know you've changed your units or lost your tare! Argh! Or it decides on its own to turn off, because you weren't fast enough - "meh, I've been on long enough, surely cook must be done by now, I must save the earth!!" This measures 12 lbs / 6 Kg in one gram resolution, and doesn't do anything annoying. Charge the built-in battery with the included charger and it'll run for 240 (!) hours. It'll also count: put ten, or a hundred (etc) items on the scale, press the right button, and then it knows what ONE item weighs, and you can count items like mylar bags, bullets, bandaids - whatever. That's handier than it sounds at first listen. Also, the lightweight metal scale surface can be removed - it's not secured by anything but gravity - when covered with flour or whatever. I bought a second one for my freeze-drying room, and one for the kitchen.
