I have used several of these GP-410UB touchpads and purchased a new one to replace one with a bad USB cord. While the new touchpad appears to be the same model, and has the same model number, it does not function the same. The programmable buttons on the sides are NOT programmable. They are fixed to be forward and back browsing buttons. The programmable Corner Tap Zone in the upper-right corner of the touch-sensitive area does not exist. It does nothing. As a result, the newest version of this touchpad is little more than a standard two-button mouse. This is very disappointing as early versions of this device saved my career from excruciating carpal tunnel syndrome caused by using a mouse. I hope that Adesso restores all the Glidepoint functionality to what was once the best touchpad on the market.

I bought the Adesso Smart Cat because I needed a more ergonomic mouse since I use a computer all day at work. Using a typical mouse was causing my hands and arms to hurt. The Smart Cat is very comfortable to use. The large touch-pad makes it easy to move around on my computer screen and do daily business tasks and web surfing. The touch-pad is very responsive and works like it should. The buttons work great and I think I can program them but I haven't tried that feature. This is my second purchase. I bought a second one so I could have one at work and one at home. I've had my old one for years and it still works perfectly.Using this mouse makes it so I can work on a computer all day in comfort.I highly recommend this mouse if you are looking to reduce hand/arm stress caused from using a typical mouse. The price varies greatly around the web so be sure to shop around for the best deal.

THIS WOULD BE A 5 STAR DEVICE, FOR THE MONEY, BUT IT CANNOT BE FULLY PROGRAMMABLE TO CUSTOMIZED BUTTONS, OF MY CHOICE. YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE FROM A DROP DOWN LIST, WHICH ARE NOT ALL VERY USEFUL FOR ME. THEY ARE USEFUL FOR GENERAL USE, BUT NOT FOR WHAT I NEEDED IT FOR. I NEEDED TO PROGRAM A BUTTON TO CONTROL-SHIFT-B, AND YOU CANNOT DO THIS TYPE OF CUSTOM KEY PROGRAMMING. ALSO, THE TWO SIDE BUTTONS ARE PAIRED TO THE SAME FUNCTION SO REALLY YOU ONLY HAVE 3 BUTTONS, NOT 4 BUTTONS. THE DROP DOWN OPTIONS ARE COOL THOUGH, JUST NOT WHAT I NEED. OH, BUT YOU ALSO CAN PROGRAM THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THE PAD TO ONE OF THE OPTIONS, SO I GUESS IN THAT SENSE IT IS A 4 PROGRAMMABLE KEY, BUT OTHERWISE IT SHOULD BE A 5 PROGRAMMABLE BUTTON PAD, IF THE TWO SIDE BUTTONS WERE NOT PAIRED TO THE SAME FUNCTIONS.

I had high hopes for this product but the buttons are noticeably cheap quality and the left click button stopped working after 8 weeks, just stays flat and does not pop back up. I contacted the company filled out the RMA form and have not heard from them for 3 weeks. No one answers the RMA extension or gets back to you. Then they want you to prove you returned it. You can quickly tell the company is Chinese owned as when someone finally answered they said R&D department and could not speak english and just wanted to switch the call without helping. They said to hold and when I got switched to the supposed RMA department I got a message that there was no one there to answer the phone, to leave a message. The company does not know the meaning of customer service and obviously the warranty is not something they take seriously. If the product fails dont count on the mentality that seems to pervade the company to stand behind the product. You are basically taking a gamble. If I had another problem I would not even try to return the product which is what I believe they are counting on. The amount of work, the amount of calls and time wasted makes this a very expensive product. Do yourself and favor and find a reputable company and dont bother with Adesso. Call the RMA department if you have any doubts you wont get anyone on the line. The product quality is substandard and the customer service non existent.

I bought this for use on my Mac desktop and took a chance on how well it would work. I plugged it into a PC as well. Without any special software installed, both machines (XP, MacOS 10.5) supported most of its functions. Tap-dragging, vertical scrolling, the top-right right click tap area work. The two physical buttons on the sides are both perceived as a middle mouse button. But I could not get them to be recognized as separate buttons, and the horizonal scrolling also was not supported (this is not a surprise as most mice act the same way without specific drivers). I did try installing USB overdrive as suggested by Alps, but it did not enable any more functions. But the good news is it is not needed. As for the device itself, it has a reasonably large touch area and works well. The only complaint might be the quality of the physical buttons is a little disappointing; mostly that they rattle in place and can make a cheap plastic sound when you tap the touchpad hard, though functionally they are fine. Most people can't stand touchpads, commonly found in laptops. But in reality they only take a few days to master and once you do you'll find them much better for your wrists than a mouse. You also get a lot of desktop real estate back because it does not need to move.

This product worked well until my cat knocked over coffee on it. It would be more convenient if it was cordless. But then again there are no batteries to run down. So, if your computer works, so does this touchpad. There is no way to program the side buttons in Linux.

Well, I tried this in an unsuccessful effort to reduce "mouse injury syndrome" (twisted pinky, tense fingers, etc.) But, after using for a few weeks, it really didn't help that. So I went back to my Logitech trackball

If you need an alternative to a mouse and you like touchpads this product might be for you. It feels well-made, and in using it for a few weeks at work I had no issues. It didn't move around unexpectedly, and I didn't have to press hard or tap furiously to make it click.I wasn't able to install the software at work, but it works out of the box on windows and linux, giving you scrolling functionality, and left/right-clicking taps as well. It defaults to a sluggish speed, but you can alter the mouse settings to speed it up.The four buttons are actually three. The two on the left and right of the pad are middle-click buttons, with the ones below being left and right. I found the placement of the left and right buttons inconvenient with them being hidden by my hand, and constantly wished they were placed at the top. This might have been achievable if I had the software installed. Maybe there's an option to rotate the device.All-in-all I eventually concluded that I was quicker with the mouse, and the gained comfort of the touchpad wasn't enough to offset that. Although, having written this, I think I might just bring it back into work again!

Great little device! I love being able to use both the Smart Cat and mouse, I have the glider to my left for navigating and frees my right hand for writing notes and I have my right hand for the mouse for quick cursor maneuvers. Overall experience is great. I highly recommend this product to ease the tension on your fingers, wrist, shoulders, arm that contribute to carpal tunnel deficiencies.
