I have a small shop with no stationary powertools other than an vintage 10" bandsaw. My buddy gave me an old Craftsman electric drill which I installed on this little piece of harware. It's a permant mounting and is accurate as I need need it to be. I installed a heavy base and an intermediate table that gives it more versatility. The stand is metal and is much more substantial than I thought it would be. For the money it cannot be beat, anywhere. Another good product found on my go-to source for selection and price--Amazon. I am 73 years old, son of a woodworker.

Considering that I paid very little for this item, it was better than I expected. It works best and safest if anchored solid. When the box arrived it rattled. Sure enough the bag of screws and stuff had emptied and the scale (cheap plastic) had broken off. I managed to assemble it. During first use the screw that positions the main assy stripped by the time I tightened it enough to stabilize. (All the screws and nuts could not be of lesser quality.) Replaced it with stainless hex head... problem solved. The assy travel up and down the main shaft was very rough, Disassembled and generously lubed all surface to surface moving parts then reassembled. Drilled six 3/8" holes in 1/8" steel flat bar with much patients. Worked fine. If you expect this to function as a permanent drill press it won't for very long because it's not a drill press. It is worth what you pay used correctly.

There is a good 1/4 inch if side to side play that makes it useless as a press. Not worth even $1.

Okay, I would LOVE to buy a real drill press, but it just isn't in the cards at the moment. But I did need something to help drill some consistent, straight holes and this barely fits the bill for cheap.PROS:-Very inexpensive-Can drill consistent, straight holes-Cheap-Fit my corded drill perfectly-Doesn't cost much at allCONS:-Cheap; I clamped it to my workbench on the first use and cracked the base at one of the corners.-Stiff spring in the lowering arm. It is very hard to do any fine movements up or down with the drill.-Wobbly as a toddler in high heels on ice. You CAN drill straight holes but you've got to muscle and guide it the whole way. You can't just bring the arm down and expect it to hit the same spot twice in a row. If you have to back out of a hole and then go back in be prepared to go carefully and guide it in slowly, not just down, but side to side as well. All that said, it is doing what I need it to do, if barely. And the price was right.

Easy to assemble and well-made. Ideal for the home hobbyist for any number of wood projects. Clearly not intended for use in a precision machine shop, but excellent price for something you would use at home.

In theory this should be a no brained but in practically it isn’t very good. Works fine on small projects but for larger items a traditional drill press is needed.

Adjustment screws stripped out and will no longer work. Only used to drill 1 hole before this happened. The problem is that the height Adjustable clamp needs to be really tight or it will slip up and down the shaft but if you tighten the cast aluminum clamp a few times it eventually strips out and renders the product useless.
