This trimmer is made very well and should have been a great purchase. However, the blade is difficult to set to the correct depth--too little and you trim very little of the edge banding, too much and you trim off the face veneer of the plywood you're edging. Its worst feature is that it only cuts in one direction, so that you have to cut against the grain on one side or the other and that will cause the banding to tear out. I'm returning it.

People are correct in saying the blade is difficult to set the correct depth. And that's true until you figure out, then this is the best edge band trimmer I've used in my 35 years in cabinet making. Mine came with the main body, the blade, a brass thumb screw and a little nylon washer. As shipped it was set up with the blade in the body first, the washer on top of the blade, the thumb screw holding everything in place. Set like that I couldn't back the blade off enough so it didn't deep cut into my work. But it was right there, if I tilted it just slightly it worked great. So I took it apart and realized that if you install the washer first, you've effectively moved the blade back, by the thickness of the washer. Set up in that order it works absolutely fantastic, with adjustability too. You can move it forward quite a bit. I also spent five minutes with the blade on my diamond stones. Definitely happy I didn't just toss it after the first try. I'm actually going to order a few more to keep in the shop and my travel kit. This is way better than the standard plastic spring loaded units with the stamped steel blades. The edge banding glue tends to build up on those. Not this one, it's super sharp.

Edge banders are tricky tools. I've seen them made from lighter material than this one. This a a good, solid and heavy tool. It's a specialty tool that woodworkers use to level edges and/or bands. Behind and above the blade is a channel to pass the wood out. Like a any planer, you really don't want it to cut too deep.Controlling the depth is a bit of a shortcoming here. The blade is held under the brass knob and when it is just right it planes the edge well. I had trouble with the depth as there is not much guidance. You can see where the "home" position is but then it's a little trial and error to get just the right cut. That said, I like the weight and look of it. I'll just need more work to get the best out of it. The price is good too.
