This was for my kid who is a beginner and I was told synthetic reeds are more durable hence economical. The reed was used only for a couple of weeks for short durations (less than 10 mins each time) and it’s already torn.

This reed works pretty well. I found it to be a bit flat and snipped the tip. It's a little hard to play softly on, but makes a great back up reed.

Well, the reed does work. As in it makes a sound, and makes the bassoon make a sound. This might be a good choice if you have a beginner who smashes reeds up rather quickly, or if you had to play a plastic bassoon outside for some reason... but it is not my go to reed. To be honest, it’s a really nasal sound. On the other hand, it does make it really easy to get a lot of volume out of a bassoon without much effort, and it does seem pretty durable, and doesn’t need all the soaking.

My daughter explains that it is difficult to hit higher notes with this type of reed. I am glad that we chose this one out first before shelling out money for a more expensive version.

The sound quality isn't exactly natural sounding, but it's still quite good. Good for a beginner bassoon player or a casual player who doesn't want to invest time into reed making.
