The AIMS Power battery voltage regulator and isolator protects batteries using solid state technology by automatically disconnecting a 12V DC source when voltage is not safe or out of operating range. This product allows you to use different battery technologies in the same application and lithium batteries can be used in any application (alternators) because the regulator prevents the battery from over charging. Its compact and simple 2-wire terminal configuration allows for easy installation in common 2-wire 12 Volt applications: vehicle, wind, hydro or any other 12V systems. The regulator continuously monitors the input voltage. If the voltage is within the operating range of 9.4 – 14.4V, power will be supplied to the output terminal allowing power to the loads. If the voltage drops below 9.2V or is over 14.6V the power is cut off at the output terminal preventing power to the loads. The regulator also performs as an isolator by automatically disconnecting loads when the battery voltage is outside of operating range, protecting the main starting battery.

This product does not limit current. It relies on the input voltage from your alternator to turn on and off. Other than that it simply passes the alternator current to your batteries. For lithium batteries, the current demand is too high. This device passes the full 230A + capability from my sprinter alternator to my house batteries. The alternator puts out 14.8V to compensate for the heavy load which is 0.2V higher than this device is set for. So at 14.6V input, this device shuts off and will try again later. The alternator is thermally protected so it throttles back on its output when it gets hot but that keeps your alternator stressed and will shorten the life of the alternator. The 100A version acts the same way but shuts off sooner due to thermal protection. I ended up replacing these with a Renogy 12V 60A DC to DC Battery Charger. Works great but not as much current as I wanted. I may put another one in parallel to boost the current to 120A which is just about perfect for the sprinter van.
