About this item

  • The compact ZED range of mixers feature the same high-level audio and build quality as A&H’s large format touring consoles, with separate internal channel boards, Neutrik connectors and every pot fixed to the chassis.
  • Full, clear and detailed preamps with low noise, 60dB of gain and 48V phantom power bring out the best in any microphone. Two of the mono channels also have a HiZ connection to allow direct connection of high impedance sources without the need for a separate DI box.
  • A built-in, studio quality multi-FX unit provides 16 different, tweakable FX types including reverbs, delays and modulation with tap tempo to keep everything in time. These are not your average compact mixer FX either, using algorithms developed entirely in-house by our DSP experts rather than an ‘off-the-shelf’ chip.
  • The routable stereo USB output can be used to record/stream the whole mix, Aux and FX sends or the dedicated record bus which has switches on each channel which make it super easy to select just some channels for recording. It’s also class compliant and does not require drivers, meaning not just Mac and Windows computers can be connected, but also many mobile devices such as tablets or even smart phones.
  • Optional rack ear kit [ZED10-RK19] securely fits the mixer into a standard 19” rack or flight case.
  • 4 Mic, 4 Line/Inst, 2 Stereo (2 Left, 2 Right), 2 USB Audio, 1 Stereo Playback

Built by Allen & Heath, ZED-10FX is an amazing little desk for small band mixing, complete with onboard effects. It is ultra portable for carrying to the gig, and can be used for recording live or in the studio. Guitars can be plugged in directly to the mixer using the specially designed high-impedance inputs, while the mixer has two stereo inputs for MP3/CD players or keyboards. Equipped with professional XLR stereo outputs and a flexible monitoring section with headphone and speaker feed outputs. ZED-10FX is bundled with IK Multimedia's AmpliTube X-GEAR software, giving access to superbly modeled amps and effects. Allen & Heath is known for building high quality mixers for the last 40+ years. These days Allen & Heath customers are spread across almost every environment imaginable, including touring, theatres, churches, nightclubs, TV and radio stations, recording studios and countless other places where great sound matters.

USB Audio Flexibility

Getting audio to and from a computer easily is now a common requirement for live sound and music production. The way this has been implemented on ZED is super-flexible and super-easy. No longer do you need to fiddle around the back of your PC to get to the soundcard inputs, only to find that the levels are all wrong and noisy. Just plug in a USB lead to your ZED, select the USB routing on the mixer and the device on your computer and you can move CD-quality audio to and from your PC or Mac. Switches and connection through jack socket terminals provide different send/return configurations.

Send Options:
  1. Main Mix Left + Right (Post master Level)
  2. Aux + FX bus (Aux is a pre-fade send, FX is a post-fade send)
  3. Record Bus Left + Right (Separate stereo bus to Main Mix)
Return Options:
  1. To Playback input (through jack socket break contacts)
  2. To Stereo 2 channel (through jack socket break contacts)
MusiQ

ZED-10FX features a responsive 3-band, swept mid frequency EQ design which utilizes MusiQ--with optimized slope (or Q factor) for equalizing individual instruments.

Featuring an essential collection of 16 time-delay effects
ZED-FX

ZED-10FX has an essential selection of 16 time-delay effects, designed for small groups who don't want to carry around an effects unit with their gear but who still want great quality FX at their gigs and on their recordings. Allen & Heath's DSP engineers worked hard, crafting and refining beautiful reverb algorithms to enhance every performance. These effects are available nowhere else at this price point - this quality and integration is only available from the ZED-FX. ZED effects are easily controlled using 3 buttons with 9 display LEDs. For example, the ideal delay time can be quickly tapped-in, or the perfect amount of reverb on the lead vocal can be dialed-in. There is one-stop navigation and editing--in fact, it's just as easy as using effects pedals. To alter effects parameters, the TAP button is held down and the up/down buttons pressed to adjust the specific parameter for that effect, for example, the decay length on PLATE, or the depth on CHORUS.

Guitar DI

ZED-10FX's pre-amps are similar in design to Allen & Heath's MixWizard range of mixers, but with a twist. Inputs 3 and 4 have a high impedance jack input capable of taking either a normal line level or a low level input from a guitar pickup. These newly designed inputs have been crafted with the aim of replicating the sound of a classic guitar or instrument tube pre-amp in a combo or head amp. An extremely high input impedance ensures loading on pick-ups is minimal and a Class A FET (field effect transistor) circuit powered from 48V is employed to give the valve-like gain stage. There is a gain "Boost" switch associated with the guitar inputs which boosts gain by 26dB to cater for instruments with very low level outputs and the overdrive characteristics of the guitar inputs are very similar to a valve (tube) circuit, being asymmetric and soft. All this makes for a wonderfully natural sound to be reproduced from the instrument, full of warmth and character.

AmpliTube X-GEAR

As if guitarists weren't spoiled enough with its Class A FET high impedance preamps, the ZED-10FX comes with access to a full version of IK Multimedia's AmpliTube X-GEAR software--the first fully modular, customizable and expandable preamp and FX modeling software system. All the ingredients are there for some truly legendary guitar and bass tones.

Wow! Best small pro mixer for acoustic guitar and vocals with a Bose L1 system. Forget that POS Bose tone match, this mixer is miles above in sound and quality for far less money! Tonematch is a real joke anyway. With Rode mics and Sunrise pickups it's dead quiet and the effects and pretty darn good. The DI is built-in so no preamp needed! Effects loop works great with TC Helicon VoiceTone GTX. The USB stereo mix to a computer sounds super clean and as live as can be. It's as good if not better than my Focusrite 18i20. The knobs are a bit cramped, but I found my mix so that may be a good thing because I won't change them often. After testing several Mackie, Peavey, and Yamaha mixers the Allen & Heath ZED-10FX is so much better in sound quality it makes especially the Mackie seem like total junk. For the Mackie that's an absolute. At this price, acoustic players with a PA will be very happy. I use it with 2 Bose L1 systems in stereo and with 2 acoustics, bass, 2 vocals and it's amazing. The monitor outs is a big plus if you like to hear your mix live. I say go for it - you'll be happy.

This little Allen & Heath zed-10fx was my first mixer, and I have no regrets or issues with it. In fact it's been terrific, reliable, quiet, and easy to use. I love it.I bought it as a learning mixer, and had no idea how this would turn out. Nor did I know what features this didn't have that I would eventually need. Again, no complaints. This thing has been fantastic.I'm ready to upgrade. Starting with the next model up - the 12 channel unit I get all the features I'm missing on this 10 channel unit. Here they are:- channel inserts- strip mute- 3 aux sends + fx send- 1 or 2 aux = pre and 1 or 2 aux = post fader sends- 100mm fadersInsert jacks you can almost get away not having as they're a specialized line level input. And this zed 10 had both xlr mic inputs and line level inputes for each channel.Strip mutes can be faked as well. But at some point making do with a feature is not the same as having the full fledged feature.I like having 3 aux sends, and I like that some are pre fader sends, and some are post fader sends. This is important for things like running a phoe line, or hooking up Skype to yoru mixer. (common things to do in podcasting world, and sports broadasting, etc).100mm faders are easier to glance at than dials to see where they are. And 100mm vs 60mm give you more granular control..So there you go. I'm a fan of Alllen & Heath mixer desks. And it took me a couple years to get the experience and knowldge with different situations to know what I really needed for the challenges I've run across.Good luck with your projects.

I am delighted with this product, I have not used it for recording yet but only in a "live" situation and it is perfect for the job. Allen & Heath make quality mixers and even at this price point, the ZED -10FX delivers and offers great value for money. It's easy to use and pretty intuitive so it will suit non technical users fro the get go. I use it for backing tracks, vocals and both acoustic and electric guitars in a one man set up and it is perfect for this given the stereo inputs and guitar inputs specifically designed for the purpose. The sound and EQ are very good through headphones and the effects are really easy to use and the standard settings are adequate to cover most applications without the need to tinker with them. It feels robust and is finished well and gives the impression that is will last for ages.

Purchased little over a year ago. Worked great for awhile. Then after about 6 mos it developed a constant high-pitch whine on the monitor output that grew louder over time. Then about two weeks ago the USB port completely died. Then a few days later, after I had to bypass the usb and hook it up using the input and output from my computer sound card (you know, the standard way a mixer gets hooked up to things) it completely died. Lame. For $300 price point, I expect my equipment to last more than a year. I purchased a replacement from another manufacturer.I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because it did work great for awhile but overall, I wasted my money. Lame-lame-lame.

First of all, I am a deligent shopper. I reasearched specifications, read comparisons and reviews. This had the features I wanted and no bad reviews. Other considerations were Alto, Macke, and Yamaha. But when I recieved this I was very happy with my choice. The craftsmanship is obvious right out of the box. When it's hooked up, it just gets better and better. You can hear (and feel) the quality. It has all the right inputs and outputs, great control of the mix and tones, and the FXs are clean and real. I have not used the computer interface yet. This is now the center of my small studio. Obviously, I would recommend it :)

After a quick set up I am very impressed with the unit as a live sound mixer. Bomber construction and overall feel. Bought it as a replacement for a Mackie ProFX that took a spill during a gig . The Allen and Heath is absolutely noise free! Great sounding verb for the price and the mid-sweep allows me to dial in an amazing vocal sound. Perfect rig for my small acoustic band. I do miss the proper faders on the Mackie for the ease of on the fly mix tweaking but the overall sound quality more than makes up for it. (I believe they do offer a unit with faders for a bit more scratch.) Great buy.

It is a great mixer. It brings a high quality sound as bigger mixer from a professional studios and very well updated in terms of connection for different digital mixer tools. I think comparing with the others the signal quality is amazing. There is some issues as no mute button that could be included but not something essential for the purpose.
