It's made of high-quality cork material (always use cork for valve cover gaskets, not rubber). I didn't use them, however, because they were WAY too thick for my son's SBC valve covers. I went to a local parts store and purchases gaskets of approx. half the thickness.

These are for a 1955 chev v-8 . The old engine is 265 cu.in. And as you can see these are universal with the two extra holes on one side. These also fit most other SBC . The thick gaskets will fit and help to seal any leaks.
