The Alstar 12.5mm Illuminated Reticle Plossl Telescope Eyepiece is ideally suited for guiding astrophotos when used in off-axis guiders or guide scopes. And not just for astrophotos. There are also other uses for your crosshair eyepiece. These eyepieces are also very useful for determining the field of view, aligning a mount, or for finding the position angles of double stars.
- The 4-element Plossl eyepiece is fully multi-coated on all air-to-glass surfaces with high transmission anti-reflection coatings for bright, crisp views. The edges of the lenses are blackened for high contrast.
- Excellent for accurate polar and go-to alignment, and for centering guide stars for astrophotography.
- Reticle eyepiece comes with dual crosshair-really clean view for you to observe your target, filter thread provided.

Using Alstar 12.5mm illuminated reticle PLOSL telescope eyepiece requires three L1131F button cells (not included). This battery is also suitable for CASIO watches, electronic calculators, laser pens, and thermometers. when running out they are easy to get in the local store.
dioptre adjuster
The crosshairs are illuminated with red LED light which can be dimmed by means of a rotary switch on the side. There is also a dioptre adjuster on the eyepiece to ensure both the star and the crosshairs are in focus.
It has access to standard filters and inserts into a standard 1.25-inch zenith mirror.
All metal construction and anodizing aluminium process, resistant for long time use. High-quality aluminum material makes the product lighter and easier to carry.
The extremely fine, illuminated double crosshairs make tracking the guide star much straight forward for you. Instead of having to cover the star, as with single crosshairs, you can keep it precisely positioned in the centre of the eyepiece.
Adjustable image and reticle focus and adjustable LED illumination. This is steplessly adjustable via a knob on the side of the eyepiece. There is also a separate dioptre adjuster for you to be able to bring both the star and the crosshairs into focus simultaneously.

I like the idea of having a dual crosshair illuminated reticle. This should make it easier to exactly center objects in my eyepiece.When I first received the reticle, all either my wife or I saw when looking through the reticle were multiple crosshairs, not the two sets of crosshairs shown in the advertisement. I was concerned that if I turned the top adjustment knob, which Alstar calls the diopter, I would break it.After my initial review, Alstar emailed me back about my concerns. They included a photo which indicated I should turn the reticle until the crosshairs came into focus. This was hard to see on their Amazon add, and unfortunately no instructions came with the reticle.In their reply their picture of the diopter indicated it should be turned right or left to bring the crosshairs into focus. I then turned the reticle until the crosshairs gradually came into focus. Although I have not been observing since, it appears the the Alstar Illuminated Reticle should now work fine. Danny

The led lines are not sharp and it's difficult to center objects based upon the crosshairs. Don't waste your money on this one if you need accuracy. Lightweight and made from cheap materials. Spend the money and buy a "real" crosshair eyepiece. I regret I wasted the money.

I assembled the device and inserted the batteries exactly as shown in the picture on the product page. The backlight did not work. "It's broken," I thought. "I have to return it." Then, to clear my conscience, I inserted the batteries the "wrong way" (not as shown in the picture), and guess what happened? That's right: it worked.

Works fine and a decent price. As many have said, it comes with plastic turnings on the outer bottom of the lens. Used a clean, brand new paintbrush to clean it off, then it was fine

Piece of crap, ordered one and only set of cross hairs illuminated and illuminating electronics broken. Used illumining electronics from a celestron unit. Ordered a second and all cross hairs messed up.
